On Sunday, March 17, 2024, the world lost a beloved soul as Myra Joy Cole Carton peacefully passed away at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, AL. Born on September 11, 1957, in Florence, AL, Joy was the daughter of James T. Cole and Geraldine Martin Cole.
Joy's life was a testament to kindness and faith. A longtime member of Green River Baptist Church, she found solace in her spiritual community before later relocating to Decatur, AL. During her professional career, Joy dedicated seven years to Parker Realty as a realtor, all while nurturing her passion for gardening in moments of respite.
Joy is survived by her devoted husband of 35 years, Joe Carton; her loving father, James T. Cole; her dear sister, Jana Crane (Robert); cherished nieces and nephews: Bobby Crane, Josh Crane, and Jessica Reid; as well as close friends who became like family: Pam Marthaler, Courtney Sloan, and Debbie Wiley. In her final journey, Joy also leaves behind a multitude of cousins and great nieces and nephews.
She is now reunited with her mother, Geraldine Martin Cole and brother, Jarvis Wayne Cole, in eternal peace. A visitation to honor Joy's memory will be held at Shackelford of Waynesboro on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral service at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Brother Kerry Franks. The final resting place for Joy will be at Memorial Gardens of Wayne County in Waynesboro, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that a donation to the charity of your choice be made in Joy’s honor.
