Obituary of Myrna Rodenberger
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, friend, and true Patriot, Myrna (Deines) Rodenberger. Myrna was born in Timnath on April 25, 1939. She married the love of her life, Jim Rodenberger, and in July of this year, they celebrated 65 years of marriage. She and Jim have two children, Carrie "CJ" (Mike) and Rick (Tracy), 4 grandchildren, Tilan, Brandon, Jillian, and Kurt, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Myrna was the Larimer County Clerk & Recorder for 16 years and the Larimer County Treasurer for 12 years. Before running for office in 1986, she was the clerk's election manager, and she also held many positions in several departments in Larimer County during her 58-year tenure there. She may very well hold the record of being the longest employee ever of Larimer County, at slightly over 58 years.
It's been said that when she took office as Treasurer, a taxpayer was very upset that he was being charged interest for his late property tax payment. He slammed his fist on the counter and said, "I am a close and personal friend of 'Myra Rodriguez' and she will not be happy that you are charging me delinquent interest!" Myrna was around the corner and when she walked up to the counter, she was able to settle him down within a second or two. He paid "Myra" his delinquent interest with a smile.
Myrna had a way with people – some of you are laughing at this. She had a biting, yet good sense of humor. She was wicked smart, and if she didn't remember you, you had never met before. She had more people who called her friend than most people will know in their lifetime.
Myrna was a farmer at heart. She and Jim farmed just east of Fort Collins. For many decades, they provided food for families and animals in the area. Myrna could cook for 100 hungry people like it wasn't a big deal, AND she always made enough to give leftovers to those who needed a meal at home.
She was a fierce protector of our liberty and worked on many campaigns for conservative candidates. She was born a Republican. She not only bled red - she bled red, white, and blue – in that order. She was an elected woman in 1986 in a predominantly man's world, but she never met anyone she would not go toe-to-toe with around politics, preserving the Constitution, the rights of individuals, and America in general. Her love of our country and the freedom it provides us was unmatched.
But knowing Myrna, no doubt she is telling St. Peter how to do it right; how to make pickled beets, Dina Kuchen, and the right way to cook a ham.
Myrna was one of a kind - And she made a difference.
