Myron Hnateyko (96), long-time resident of Clifton, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning September 20, 2025 in Niles, IL.

Born January 21, 1929 in the small village of Rava Ruska (now Western Ukraine) to Anastasia Panychok and Konstantyn Hnateyko. Myron spent his early years in Lviv, Ukraine, and after the turmoil of WWII, was separated from his family and made his way to the displaced person's (DP) camp in Saltzburg, Austria. In 1946, the US Committee to Save European War Orphans brought him to the US, where in short order he joined the US Army and served as an Intelligence Officer during the Korean War. He later graduated from UCLA with a BS from the School of Business, and received his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Myron had a long and distinguished career in finance, ultimately retiring from Becton Dickinson as the divisional controller.

He was an active member of the Ukrainian community in New York and New Jersey where he served dutifully for many years on the Board of the Ukrainian Institute of America. He was an avid supporter and fully relished attending lectures and social events at the Ukrainian Engineers Society, the Shevchenko Scientific Society and the Ukrainian Museum.

Myron was a loving husband, caring father, doting grandfather, and cherished friend. He was a man of remarkable kindness, whose generosity knew no bounds. Myron's good humor was infectious, bringing joy and laughter to everyone around him. His intelligence was not only evident in his professional achievements but also in the wisdom he shared with those he loved. Myron's legacy is one of love, compassion, and a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Myron is predeceased by his parents, Konstantyn and Anastasia, and his sisters Stefa and Olha. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Olha, his children Timish (Anya) and Roxana (Bohdan), and grandchildren Taya (Josh), Marko (Kasey), Deanna, Symon, and Zachar.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ukrainian Catholic University Foundation (ucufoundation.org) "In Memory of Myron Hnateyko".

Myron's viewing will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Ukrainian Catholic Church at 5000 N. Cumberland Ave, Chicago, IL 60656. Requiem Services will be sung at 11:15 AM. Interment will follow at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
