Jeffrey passed away peacefully at his home in Atlanta on September 29th. Born in La Jolla, California and raised in Riverside, California, Jeff went to Riverside Poly High School where he was an avid swimmer. After high school, Jeff attended UCLA, and graduated with a BA in English in 1983. Following college, Jeff worked for Harris and Goldberg, a talent agency in Los Angeles, followed by working in development at Aaron Spelling Productions. It was at that time he met Michael Lazo, his partner, and later, husband of 35 years.
After Spelling, Jeff became a very successful screenwriter while also working in the legal department of the insurance healthcare company, WellPoint, later named Anthem, and presently Elevance Health. Jeff and Michael welcomed the birth of their son, Patrick Miller Lazo, on May 23, 2003.
Later in life, at the urging of Jon Newman, a senior judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York, Jeff attended law school and graduated with honors from California Southern University. He passed the California bar, and later became Associate General Counsel at Elevance Health, until his retirement in October, 2024.
Jeff is survived by Michael and Patrick, his mother Patricia Miller and his siblings, Laurie Ferro and Christine Perry. In lieu of flowers Jeff requested donations be sent to two charities in Belize, a country and people he loved as an adult:
