Myrtle F. “Mert” Fischer (nee Quaas), age 87 years, of West Bend, was called home to be with the Lord on February 2, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mert was born on August 29, 1937, in West Bend to Herman and Aletta Quaas (nee Peters). Mert attended St. John’s Lutheran grade school and graduated from West Bend High School in 1955. She was united in marriage to Dan E. Fischer on September 8, 1956, at St. John’s in West Bend.
In her free time, Mert was a talented and gifted baker and made the most wonderful meals (no one was going to leave her home hungry!). Mert and Dan enjoyed taking in the beauty of the country in their RV, where they traveled to places like Florida, Texas, Alaska, and Arizona and were able to watch birds and admire the wildlife. Summertimes were spent rummaging and looking for “treasures.” In the winter, Mert loved to go snowmobiling. In recent years, she enjoyed playing cards and games with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren – they were her world. Mert’s most favorite thing in life was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Spending time with her family was her biggest passion.
Those Mert leaves behind to carry on that passion include her husband, Dan Fischer; children, Scott (Carolyn) Fischer, Stephanie (the late Mike) Nofzinger, and Shelly (Jay Leiknes) Braatz; grandchildren, Amanda (Nick) Flood, Noah (Melissa) Fischer, Zachary (Nicole) Fischer, Quinn (Tasha) Nofzinger, Crysta Hietpas, and Riley Braatz; and great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Jackson Flood; Adelynn, Emmitt, Violet, and Calvin Fischer; Reid, Ty, and Tenley Hietpas; Miles and Elle Fischer. She is further survived by brother, Donald Quaas, and sister, Orlean (the late Gene) Lepien; as well as in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mert was preceded in death by her siblings, Wilmer (Edna) Quaas, Loudella (Clyde Fletcher / Don) Edmison, Elma (LeRoy) Thom, and Aletta (Clayton) Stautz.
