Pam Beardsley Powell (known as "Big" {sister} by her siblings) was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Shelton Beardsley and Allie Moore Beardsley on August 19, 1934; she was the oldest of six children. Her family lived in Baxter Springs, Kansas, and Cheyanne, Wyoming, before settling in Phoenix, Arizona when Pam was in 6th grade. Pam graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education from Arizona State University, and she was a proud Sun Devil. Pam met her husband, Jim, while she was attending ASU, and he was stationed at Luke Air Force Base. They met on a blind date, and the two were married in Phoenix on June 7, 1959; they moved to Atlanta in 1962. Pam worked as a teacher at Guy Webb Elementary school, teaching Fourth and Fifth grade students, and also for many years, part-time as a substitute in the DeKalb County School System. Pam loved infants, and she had a daycare in her home for several years, caring for newborns through age one; she also worked at Peachtree Road Lutheran Preschool in the Infant Room, upon the insistence (encouragement) of her daughter who was Interim Director of the preschool. Pam enjoyed gardening and sewing, making her own wedding dress, and her daughter's dresses for church, Proms, and wedding; Pam served the Lord faithfully as a prayer warrior for decades. Pam enjoyed the Crusaders Sunday School Class and services at First Baptist of Atlanta for over 35 years.
Pam is survived by her husband, James Leon Powell, of 65 years, their children, Michael William Powell and Patricia Lynn Ford, along with their five grandchildren, Marc Philip Powell, Ashlyn Danielle Powell, Damon Eric Ladd-Thomas, Jr., Emma Kathleen Ladd-Thomas, and Madelyn Eve Ladd-Thomas. Pam is also survived by her siblings, Virginia Schrader, Linda Karow, and Joyce Beardsley, along with many nieces and nephews. Pam's brother, David Carpenter Beardsley passed away in 2023, and one of her sisters, Altrice Walden, in 2019.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse; a memorial page has been created to honor Pam.
