Nadine Hockel, age 81, of Humboldt, passed away Monday, November 14th at the Long Term Care Unit at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Thursday at the Lentz Funeral Home in Humboldt. Private graveside services will be held at East Ullensvang Cemetery of Thor.
Nadine Caroline Grebner, the daughter of William and Mildred (Jessen) Grebner, was born on May 2, 1941 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Her family moved from Badger to Thor in 1946. Nadine attended Vernon Consolidated School before moving to Renwick and graduating from Boone Valley High School in Renwick, Iowa. During High School, she earned the Betty Crocker Homemaker Award.
On January 25, 1961 Nadine was united in marriage with Duane Richard Hockel at the Methodist Church in Humboldt. Nadine worked at the Humboldt Telephone Company until her marriage and then worked 20 years at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital as a receptionist and computer data processor, retiring in 1989.
Nadine had been a member of the Hi-Neighbor Club, Humboldt Genealogy Society, Naomi Circle and Ladies Aid at the Thor Lutheran Church and the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed working on her family history and spending time with her grandchildren.
Left to cherish Nadine's memory are her children, Richard "Rick" (Joanie) Hockel of Fort Dodge and Caroline (Neal) Thompson of Hardy; Grandchildren, Whitney (Montana) Jones, Caleb (Audrey) Hockel, Taylor Hockel, Benjamin "Ben" (Kelsey) Thompson, Dana "Dane" Thompson and Mitch Thompson; great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Caleb Jones, Corver and Jovalie "Jovi" Thompson and Gabrielle, Dimitri, Alice, Anselm and Liesl Hockel; sister-in-law's, Loretta Grebner and Jean Ann Grebner of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Shirley Beyers, Richard and Vernon Grebner.
