Nadine Ruth Pelletier, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on March 27, 2025, in Schenectady, NY. Born on February 11, 1947, in Boston, MA, to her late parents, Richard and Mildred (Brennan) Hemstreet.
Growing up on the outskirts of Boston, Nadine's vibrant personality shone brightly from an early age. A 1964 graduate of Lexington High School, she was a drum majorette and baton twirler. Nadine's adventurous spirit was evident in her love for water skiing, a pastime she pursued into adulthood. She earned her daredevil reputation water skiing with her father on the unpredictable waters of Boston Harbor.
In 1965, Nadine embarked on what she considered her greatest life's work: motherhood. She was a fun and loving mother, always present for her sons, Michael and Kenneth "Ken" Bernson. She was the cornerstone of her family, cheering on her boys at sporting events and guiding them through life's hills and valleys.
48 years ago, Nadine found her soul mate in Jeffrey Daniel Pelletier. In 1977, Jeff was simply sipping on a rum and coke on Plum Island at the Beachcomber when the bartender walked up with a drink in hand, "this is from the lady down at the end of the bar," he said. Jeff looked down the dimly lit bar and saw a petite blonde holding up her drink in a salute, so he held up his and nodded thanks. She grabbed her purse and drink, walked slowly to the stool beside Jeff, and sat down. Small talk ensued and a few more drinks; the next thing they knew, it was morning and time to go to work. Since that night, their lives have been intertwined.
Couples know when there is magic in the relationship from making funny descriptions of things, being inside one another's heads, finishing each other's sentences, and the ability to sit quietly and comfortably in the same room together. Of course, couples disagree, but at the end of the day, the person who made a goofy face during the disagreement would end the argument.
Nadine and Jeff were married in 1983 at their beloved farm home in Maine and continued their loving partnership filled with laughter and mutual adoration. Together, they navigated life's journey, working side by side at Safety Kleen, which took them all across the country. Nadine's adaptability and administrative skills were incredible. Over this time, the couple relocated to Connecticut, Maine, Canada, and Illinois. There were many ups and downs through the years of traveling for work, but Nadine and Jeff always floated back towards each other, encapsulating the song "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd.
Family was the compass that guided Nadine's heart, leading her to move to New Hampshire to care for her elderly parents at Lake Winnipesaukee, one of her favorite places on earth, which also offered solace and adventure through snowmobiling in the winter and water skiing in the summer. Nadine also loved to be by the ocean in the summer months, especially with a book. In 2001, Nadine and Jeff planted their roots in
Glenville, New York, to be closer to their granddaughter. She enjoyed being a grandmother and creating friendships in the community, especially at the Glenville Senior Center.
Nadine's zest for life extended beyond her family and community. With Jeff, she traveled extensively, finding a piece of paradise in Hawaii, and all over the Southwest, a favorite destination since their honeymoon. She had a talent for transforming houses into homes, each one reflecting the love and care she poured into them. Nadine extended her heart to the many cats and dogs she loved over her lifetime.
On her last night of life, Jeff held Nadine's hand as she left this world to be reunited with those who passed before her. In heartbreak, we recall the heartfelt lyrics of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here."
She is survived by her devoted husband, Jeffrey Daniel Pelletier; her sons, Michael (Beth Stocker) Bernson, and Kenneth "Ken" Bernson; her granddaughters, Tiffany Boisvert and Alicia Bernson; her daughter in law Dee Dee Bernson, her sisters, Lois McIntosh and Marcia Marble. Her parents and brothers-in-law, Robert McIntosh and Edward Marble, preceded her in death.
