Nancy (Folger) Buddenhagen, 84, lifelong Shrewsbury resident, passed away on the morning of Monday, February 19, 2024 at Benchmark Senior Living at Shrewsbury Crossing.
She leaves her beloved husband of 64 years, Gene E. Buddenhagen; their devoted children, Michael Buddenhagen and wife Linda, of Boylston, and Sherie Foley and husband Denis, of Marco Island, FL; grandchildren, David Buddenhagen, Daniel Buddenhagen, Kristen Carter, Conor Foley, and Maeve Foley; and a great-grandchild, Cameron Buddenhagen, all of whom she was so proud of. Over the years, Nancy enjoyed the camaraderie of many friends, however, her best friend was Gayle Baker, of Florida. Nancy was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Fleming; and their parents, Wayne and Susan (Carpenter) Folger.
She was born in Worcester, raised and educated in Shrewsbury – she graduated from Major Howard W. Beal High School, Class of 1958. Nancy worked as a secretary for the Town of Shrewsbury Parks and Recreation Department for many years. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Nancy's faith was always a forefront of her life, and she was a longtime member of Grace Church, in Hudson. She enjoyed participating in prayer and Bible-study groups, but most recently, watched the Grace church services via Zoom on Sunday mornings and listened to religious television shows before falling asleep.
Nancy loved cooking, especially making and sharing meals with her family. Baking was a passion of hers, and she loved making hermits and ginger cookies – she always had a real sweet tooth!
She had always enjoyed reading, and loved her animals, a cat named Benji, and a black lab named Dream. Nancy looked forward to her grandchildren visiting, especially when they brought their dogs to see her.
In their younger years, Nancy and Gene traveled to Bermuda several times, as well as to Germany and Switzerland. When she was a child, Nancy traveled to a family camp in Canada quite often.
Nancy loved to garden and spending time outdoors working in her yard, and enjoyed sitting outside on a warm day in the sun. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and knitting, and often reminisced about making clothes for her children when they were little.
Most recently, Nancy enjoyed playing games, such as dominoes and word puzzles, and enjoyed arts and crafts.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org/donate).
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Buddenhagen family from 10 – 11 AM on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury, with a service to follow at 11, in the funeral home. Burial will be held in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
