Nancy Alice Broyles Canady age 91 of San Antonio passed away peacefully Sunday, June 22, 2025, at The Village at Incarnate Word in San Antonio. Funeral services are 11:00am Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Little River Baptist Church 3446 FM 979 Jones Prairie, Texas 76520 with visitation at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Little River Church Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband and many family members.
Born on January 18, 1934, in San Diego, California to parents Marshall Oscar Broyles and Maud Magdaline Bennett Broyles, Nancy grew up with a love for learning and family. Nancy's childhood was spent living in La Mesa and Eureka, California with her parents and brothers before she was sent at age 13, along with her brother Johnnie, to live with their grandmother in Byng, Oklahoma. While living in Oklahoma, her youngest brother Thomas was born, and she graduated high school. When she was 19, Nancy moved to Houston, Texas to attend the University of Houston as a business major. Her family settled in Jacinto City, Texas, where she was a very involved member of First Baptist Church.
In 1953, Nancy married the love of her life, Hugh Dean "Buddy" Canady, after meeting at First Baptist Church. While living in Houston, they welcomed the arrival of their four daughters, Lisa, Terry, Caron, and Kelly. Nancy supported the girls' many extra-curricular activities: teaching Sunday School, GA's, Mission Friends, training union, horseback riding and rodeoing, raising and showing dogs, basketball and softball games, Girl Scouts and Campfire Girls, was active in the PTA, made many costumes and show gowns, and even taught at their elementary school. The family moved in 1974 and began attending Spring Baptist Church, where she and Buddy were actively involved with their Sunday School department and the many youth activities. In 1981, the family relocated to San Antonio, Texas where Nancy, along with Buddy, owned Campbell's Delivery Service. Nancy was the computer programmer for the company and created an accounting system for them to use. She managed the accounting for the entire company of over 100 employees until she retired in 1995.
Upon retiring, you could often find Nancy reading, sewing, painting, "puzzling", or visiting estate sales with Buddy. They also enjoyed road trips around Texas and the United States to visit family and friends. The grandchildren loved nothing more than going to Nana and Pampa's house, where the word "no" rarely existed.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Marshal Oscar Broyles and Maud Magdaline Bennett Broyles; her husband of 60 years Hugh Dean "Buddy" Canady; her son-in-law George Michael "Mike" Hausinger; her brothers James Nelson Broyles and Johnnie Lee Broyles; Father-in-law and mother-in-law; Newton Campbell Canady and Effie Elizabeth Bell Canady; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Evelyn Faye Canady Moss and Harold Alexander "Pete" Moss; Joyce Nadine Canady Hunt and Waldo Arthur Hunt; and Clifford Newton Canady and Bernie Lynn Carter Canady.
