In Loving Memory of Nancy Lou Colley
1957 - 2025
Nancy Colley, a devoted wife, beloved sister, cherished aunt, loyal friend, and proud Texan, passed from this life on August 23, 2025, in Decatur, Texas, at the age of 68. Born on June 10, 1957, in Fort Worth, Texas, at Harris Methodist Hospital, Nancy entered the world as the treasured daughter of Jesse Carol Miller and Oleta Faye Cox-Miller.
From the very beginning, Nancy carried within her a strong spirit, the kind of Texas grit and heart that would remain with her throughout her life. In 1966, her family moved to Keller, Texas, where she grew up, graduated from Keller High School with the class of 1975, and formed many of the lifelong friendships that would bless her for the next sixty years.
On February 15, 1986, Nancy married the love of her life, Clay Colley, in a ceremony held at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Colleyville, Texas. Together they built a marriage founded on devotion, laughter, and mutual respect. Although Nancy and Clay were not blessed with children of their own, she embraced the role of mother to her nephew, Melvin Lloyd, after the death of her sister Shirley. With all the love in her heart, she raised him as her own, becoming a guiding presence and protector in his life. To Melvin, she was more than an aunt-she was "Mom." To countless others in her family circle and among her friends, she was "Sissy," a nurturing soul who gave freely of herself.
Nancy's working life reflected her determination and commitment. She began her career at Winn-Dixie Hardware Store in Haltom City in 1976, where she faithfully worked for eight years. She later spent time with Frito-Lay and then joined Secore in Keller before settling into her longest career, at McDonald's Lumberyard, where she worked for more than twenty years. Known for her reliability, hard work, and personal touch with customers, she became a familiar and trusted face. Even in her later years, Nancy was still working at Chicken Express in Keller, where she was so deeply appreciated by her customers that they often brought her gifts to express their gratitude.
Nancy was known for her faith, her patriotism, and her passionate spirit. She loved God with a steady devotion, she loved her country with pride, and she was unwavering in her support of President Donald Trump. But if there was one passion that rivaled all else, it was her beloved Dallas Cowboys. From the glory days of Roger Staubach until the present, Nancy was one of their most ardent and enthusiastic fans. She proudly called herself "the biggest Dallas Cowboys fan in the world," and she truly meant it. No one dared interrupt her during a Cowboys game, and the only reason she ever bought a big-screen TV was to better enjoy watching her team play. Talking bad about the Cowboys in Nancy's presence was simply not an option-you knew better.
Though firm in her beliefs, Nancy had a tender and generous heart. She cared deeply for her mother, tending to her in the final year of her life with grace and devotion. She had a special love for animals, particularly cats, feeding and caring for strays around her home, though her mother's cat, Shadow, was her most beloved. She adored cookouts, becoming a grill master who could feed a crowd with joy, and she loved playing pool, a game Clay taught her but one she soon mastered so thoroughly that he could no longer beat her.
Nancy was also known for her frugality-she carefully managed what she had, but if someone she loved was in need, she would gladly give the very shirt off her back. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends, her bonds with them enduring across decades.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Oleta Miller; her sister, Shirley Cox; and her stepson, Danny Colley.
She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly forty years, Clay Colley; her nephew, Melvin Lloyd and his wife Angie Cox; her great-nephews and great-nieces, including two great-nephews, a great-niece, and one great-great-nephew; along with countless extended family members and friends who loved her dearly and will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
Nancy's funeral service will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Azle Funeral Chapel, located on the grounds of Azleland Cemetery. She will be laid to rest privately at Jaybird Cemetery in Hill County, Texas.
Nancy's life was a tapestry of love, loyalty, and Texas pride. She loved God, her family, her friends, her Cowboys, and her country with all her being. Those who were blessed to know her will forever remember her laughter, her competitive spirit, her strength, and her deep devotion to those she loved. She will be missed beyond measure but remembered with gratitude and joy by all who knew her.
