Nancy Gaughan Obituary
Nancy L. (Bateman) Gaughan, a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and nurse, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024, while in the compassionate care of Mahoning Valley Nursing Home. Born on August 25, 1936, in Allentown, she was a beacon of love and dedication to all who knew her throughout her 87 years of life.
Nancy's early life in Allentown laid a strong foundation for her nurturing spirit. She was the beloved daughter of the late Walter and Mary (McAllister) Bateman. Her journey of caring for others began at Sacred Heart Nursing School, where she honed her skills and passion for helping those in need. Nancy's commitment to healthcare led her to a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown, where she served her community until her well-deserved retirement.
Her personal life was equally rich with love and devotion. Nancy was the loving wife of the late Richard J. Gaughan, Sr., and together they built a family that was her pride and joy. She leaves behind her son, Richard J. Gaughan, Jr. and his wife Christina, and her daughter-in-law, Ruthann Gaughan. Nancy was a guiding light and source of endless support for her grandchildren, Heather and Nathan and his wife Brittney, and her great grandchildren Vincent and Addison who will carry her legacy forward with fond memories.
Nancy was a sister and friend to Bette Miller, and she now joins her late siblings, Linda and Janie, as well as her late children, Daniel D. Gaughan and Dorothy J. Gaughan, in eternal rest. Her family was her world, and the love she fostered within it will continue to flourish in her absence.
Throughout her life, Nancy's interests reflected her love for the simple joys of life. She was an avid reader who could often be found with a book in hand, lost in the stories and knowledge within its pages. Her hands were rarely still, as she found solace and joy in crocheting and knitting, creating warmth and beauty for her loved ones and those in need. Nancy also had a sharp mind that delighted in the challenges of crossword puzzles and sudoku, which kept her wit as keen as ever.
Nancy's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mahoning Valley Nursing Home. Their dedication and care for Nancy in her final days were a source of comfort and peace to her and her family.
