Marvin Benner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cantelmi Funeral Home - Fountain Hill on Mar. 3, 2026.
Marvin G. Benner, 83, of Wind Gap, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, at home, surrounded by family who loved him deeply. He was the devoted and cherished husband of Caroline M. (Giovenco) Benner, who passed away in 1998 and remained forever in his heart.

Born on November 15, 1942, in Fountain Hill, Marv was the son of the late Nevin and Myra (Walp) Benner. He lived his life with quiet strength and was widely known for being selfless, kind, humble, loving, and generous-never seeking recognition, yet always making a difference in the lives of others.

Marv was a graduate of Fountain Hill High School's Class of 1960 and earned his degree from Rider College in 1964. While attending Rider, he played baseball and worked full-time to support his young family, a reflection of his determination and sense of responsibility. He went on to enjoy a long and successful career in sales, where his integrity, strong work ethic, and genuine concern for others earned him lasting respect.

Marv took great pride in working with his hands. He found joy in gardening, construction, cooking, auto repairs, woodworking, and patiently solving jigsaw puzzles. Known by many as a "fixer of everything," he built his own home and willingly lent his skills to help family, friends, and neighbors.

Family meant everything to Marv. He is survived by his children: Tammy Martin and her husband Ted of Whitehall; Joseph Benner of Bethlehem; Nicole Galloway and her husband Jason of Columbia, SC; and Brian Benner and his husband Christopher Platt of New York City. He is also survived by his brothers, Donald Benner and Dale Benner and his wife Polly, both of Hellertown. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Gordon. His greatest joy was being "Pop-Pop" to his grandchildren Dominick, Max, Caroline, Drew, Dylan, and Marlo.

Marv's generous heart extended beyond his family. He lovingly cared for his cat, Luna, fed neighborhood strays, kept bird feeders filled year-round, and delighted in spoiling his children's dogs during visits. His generosity also reached far beyond his home through his support of a wide range of charitable causes.

A loyal fan of Philadelphia sports, Marv's enthusiasm was contagious and often brought family together around the television. He was happiest hosting family gatherings where laughter, great food, and togetherness were always abundant.

Services: A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 6, 2026, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1422 Church Rd., Pen Argyl, PA 18072. Calling hours will be held Thursday evening from 6:00–8:00 PM at Cantelmi Funeral Home, 1311 Broadway, Fountain Hill, PA, and again Friday morning from 10:00–11:00 AM at the church.
