Nancy S. Hamic, 82, of Scurry, TX went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2024.
Nancy was born in Hamburg, AR, on August 19, 1942, to Clifton and Ruby Spencer. In seventh grade, she moved to Crowley, LA, where she graduated high school in 1960. She attended Louisiana State University, graduating in 1964 with a degree in education. She received her master's degree and master's Plus 30 from McNeese State University. On June 5, 1963, Nancy married Garland J. Hamic, Jr., with whom she spent the following 61 years.
Nancy dedicated her 33-year career to teaching, serving in East Baton Rouge Parish, Calcasieu Parish, and at McNeese State University. She taught first grade and kindergarten, including gifted & talented classes, retiring from this role in 2004.
Nancy spent many hours scrapbooking with friends, creating keepsakes for her beloved grandchildren. She participated in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), The Review Club, and L'Argent Investments Club. She volunteered as a Candy Striper at Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Junior League of Lake Charles.
A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Nancy knew well that God was good to her. Reflecting on her life in recent years, she wrote, "He blessed me with protective parents who sacrificed for me so that I might benefit from those things of which they were deprived as young people growing up during the Depression. He blessed me with a loving, God-fearing husband who, while he called me 'high-maintenance,' chose to spoil me and wait on me hand and foot. He blessed me with three children who have grown up to be active in the service of their Lord and His Church. My grandchildren are being raised in homes where God is consulted in decisions that are made. God is indeed good."
Nancy was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA, for 50 years before moving to Texas in 2015 and becoming a member of First Baptist Church of Kaufman.
Nancy's parents preceded her in death. Those left to cherish her memory are husband Garland; children: Garland Jefferson Hamic, III and husband Ted Thompson, Amy Hamic Keith and husband Kevin, and Clifton Ross Hamic and wife Mia; grandchildren: Spencer Keith, Griffin Keith, Alexandra Hamic, Gabrielle Hamic, and Mary Hamic; numerous extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
The family extends deep gratitude to the Solaris Hospice caregivers who worked tirelessly to provide care and support in Nancy's final months: Wendy, Allie, Priscilla, Emma, Brian, and Vanessa.
