Nancy Lee Irwin, 82, born May 16, 1943, in Warsaw, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was raised on her family’s farm and developed a lifelong love for family, hard work, and animals.
Nancy graduated from Atwood High School in Atwood, Indiana. She began her college education at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas, following her older brother Jim, before returning to Indiana where she married Bob Evans of Claypool, Indiana. In December 1974, she moved to Gallatin, Tennessee, where she made her home for many years.
She was a faithful member of Gallatin First United Methodist Church and generously gave her time volunteering in the schools her children attended, as well as at Sumner Memorial Hospital. Nancy later continued her education at Volunteer State Community College, earning her degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
Nancy was devoted to her family and found her greatest joy in being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Norma Irwin, and her brother, Bill Irwin.
She is survived by her children: Rich Evans of Gallatin, Tennessee; Christy (Joey) Shunnarah of Madison, Alabama; and Danielle (Jeff) Smith of Gallatin, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Michael Shunnarah, Reid (Josie) Smith, Anna Shunnarah, Ethan (Emma) Smith, and Catherine Rose Smith; and her great-grandchild, Colter Smith. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Irwin; her sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Irwin and Rita Irwin; and many extended family members and friends.
Nancy will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, servant’s heart, and deep love for her family and animals.
A graveside service to honor Nancy will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at 11 am at Stony Point Cemetery, Leesburg .
