Nancy June (Schartner) McCarthy, 77, of Spring Hill, FL, passed away on September 1, 2024, in Indianapolis, IN. She was born June 22, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Walter Schartner and Frances Elizabeth (Yung) Schartner. After completing her education, Nancy worked for many years as a registered nurse, eventually becoming a wound/ostomy nurse. Nancy developed a protocol for elderly skin tears that is still used today. Nancy had a passion for taking care of others as evidenced by her participation in nine medical mission trips to Haiti and her participation as a C.A.S.A. volunteer.

Nancy married the love of her life, Thomas Edward McCarthy, on September 16, 1967. They enjoyed many years together by each other’s side, raising their family and watching their children and grandchildren grow.

Nancy will be remembered as a beloved mother, sister and friend to many. Nancy had many joys in life. She was a bocce player and enjoyed playing with her league. She also loved playing Three Kings, which she called “nickels” with her friends. She enjoyed sixties music and dancing whenever the opportunity arose. Nancy loved shopping, and always managed to look sophisticated in whatever she wore, never wearing the same outfit twice. She was a very social person and enjoyed her time as a sorority sister of Beta Sigma Phi and a member of the Kiwanis Club. Nancy was a devout Catholic and very close to her faith. She will be remembered for her kindness, and enjoyed opening up her home and cooking meals for family and friends to spend time with them every chance she had.

Nancy is survived by her children, Melissa (Michelle) McCarthy, Scott (Debbie) McCarthy, Sean McCarthy, Marc (Tiffany) McCarthy, and Maura (Nicholas) Lewis; brothers, Walter (Susan) Schartner and Roger (Susan) Schartner; grandchildren, Adam (Josh), Andrew, Jackson, Shea, Maddox, Amira, Conner, Collin, Wilhem, Ileana, Nathaniel, Theodore, Cayleigh, and Kelsey; great-grandson, Thomas; as well as her beloved pet dog, Lizzy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward McCarthy Jr; as well as her son, Thomas Edward McCarthy III.

Services for Nancy will be held at St. Francis of Assisi University Parish and Newman Center, 1200 W Riverside Ave, Muncie, IN 47303 on September 21, 2024. Visitation is at 12:00 pm and the funeral mass begins at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow the mass.
