Nancy Ann Pickard

Nancy Ann Pickard, age 93 of North Canton, passed away on June 16, 2023 at home. Nancy was born in Lakewood, Ohio on March 4, 1930. After graduating from Lakewood High School, she attended The Ohio State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She met and married Wendell Wayne Pickard. They were married for 67 years when he passed away in August 2017. After OSU, Nancy attended and graduated from Malone University. Later she received her masters degree from the University of Akron. Nancy taught 5th and 6th grades for thirty years at Orchard Hill Elementary in North Canton and loved every minute of it. She also loved living on their wooded lot-there's a lot of chopping and raking-and finding the wild animals-raccoons, deer, opossums and many wild birds. Mom loved traveling with Dad through the Elderhostel/Road Scholar program. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Helen McKinley Shuman and Owen J. Shuman, brother Donald M. Shuman, and son-in-law James Lovsey. She leaves her three children, Molly Pickard-Lovsey of Columbus, OH, Charles (Sally Farbeann) Pickard of Waldorf MD and Daniel Pickard of North Canton; grandchildren Emily Lovsey of Columbus, OH, Laura (Jacob Farrier) Pickard of White Plains MD, Joseph (Hilla Shimshoni-Farbeann) Farbeann of Washington DC, Haley Pickard of Greensburg, PA, Nancy Pickard of Blue Ash, OH and Anna Pickard of Cleveland, OH; five great-grandchildren, Owen Stevens, Emma and Ethan Farbeann, Frederick Farrier, and Marie Pickard; niece Susan Shuman Lucas and nephew Scott M. Shuman, both of New Bern, NC, and nephew Gary W. Baxter of Missoula, MT; great-nephew Andrew Shuman; and five precious cats. Calling hours will be from 11:00-1:00 on Saturday June 24, 2023 at Reed Funeral Home (NORTH CANTON CHAPEL) 801 Pittsburg Ave NW North Canton, OH. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Wilderness Center, 9877 Alabama Ave SW, Wilmot, OH 44689. A private graveside service will be held for the family.
