Nancy Kay Pulsifer (Englehardt) daughter of Maxine and Fritz Englehardt, born in Jacksonville, FL, died Sunday night in her beloved chalet in
Madison, NH at the age of 79 where she spent many hours with friends and neighbors discussing events of the day in her favorite spot, the screened-in gazebo.
Growing up in the South at the base of Lookout Mountain in
Chattanooga, TN, Nancy Kay came to Boston where she would meet husband G. Peter Pulsifer of
Winthrop, MA.
Known for her quick wit, sense of humor and southern hospitality, she was an amazing cook and entertainer that would make Julia Child proud. She loved cooking with wine, and sometimes she would even put it in the food. Her weapon of choice to threaten misbehaving children was the wooden spoon, (and while it was never used other than to smack against the counter to restore order), there is still a kitchen drawer filled with sacrificial broken ones.
A select few will remember her as a cosmetics industry mogul at the Chelmsford Mall, where she ran a successful business for many years in between stints of administering executives as an assistant (obviously, she ran the place). She was a pioneer for female entrepreneurs and women led businesses everywhere.
She loved football and was a season ticket holder to the New England Patriots since 1994. 1994 was also the start of what's commonly referred to as the greatest dynasty in sports. Some will say it was coaching and the eventual drafting of Tom Brady a few years later, but we all know it was Nancy's fandom and loyalty that drove the success. While never attending a Super Bowl in-person herself, she attended an annual party with dear friends in Jacksonville Fla, celebrating 6 Patriots SuperBowl wins (and if not for Asante Samual and Wes Welker dropping easy catches, it would have been 8!)
Lucky in love and family, but unlucky in health, Nancy Kay had more surgeries and implanted bionic devices to make the six million dollar man look like a rounding error. She was never without pain, but that didn't stop her from trying to visit all of the wineries in the Napa & Sonoma Valleys during her many trips to Northern California. She almost made it, and while she didn't quite hit them all, she made it to all of the best ones, enjoying many glasses of delicious Cabernet Sauvignon in the warm sunshine with family and friends.
She was strong, loving, funny, and an amazing wife, mother and nana. She is survived by her husband Pete Pulsifer of
Dracut, MA; her daughter, Betsy Mahoney, husband Matt of Middleton, MA and children Shane, Lucien, and Erin; her son Jason Pulsifer, wife Carrie of
Cape Neddick, ME and children Nora and Liam; and her son Gregory Pulsifer, wife Christine of
Danville, CA and children Elizabeth, Ava and Owen.
Flowers are greatly appreciated and/or donations can be made to Boston Children's Hospital or Dana Farber.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 24th from 5pm to 8pm at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT. Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday morning at 10am in the Funeral Home. Interment will be held privately.
