In Loving Memory of

Nancy Ann Russell

07/01/1938 – 08/11/2025

Nancy Ann Russell was born in Mooresville, N.C. on July 1, 1938 to William and Hazel Russell. She was the oldest of three children, her sister Sandra and brother Dave both pre-deceased her. She graduated from Women's College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, N.C. before being commissioned in the U S Army. Nancy made the Army her career, earned a master's degree from William and Mary and was promoted through the ranks to Lieutenant Colonel.

After retirement from the military, Nancy re-located to San Antonio where she began a second career in real estate. While working full time as a realtor, she also pursued her passion in politics and became quite active in the LGBTQ+ community and fought for equal rights for all veterans. Nancy was instrumental in securing a spot on the National Mall for a memorial to LGBTQ+ veterans and then actively fund raised to make the memorial a reality. She was a district chairperson for the Democratic party and worked hard to get out the vote and proudly attended several national conventions.

Nancy was also an accomplished artist and had showings at several venues in San Antonio. Several of her friends are privileged to have received gifts of her artwork. While Nancy never married or had children, she was always surrounded by good friends who became the family she selected.

A memorial service for Nancy will be at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Antonio on September 11, Thursday, at 10 a.m.
