Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hippensteel Funeral Home, Inc. on Oct. 3, 2023.
I, Nancy Mae (LaMaster) Schnepp went to meet my Lord on Monday, October 2, 2023, aged 71. I am the Mother of sons Tim Schnepp (rural
Lafayette, IN) and Kyle (SO Krystal Ashman)
Gainesville, FL. I'm known as "Mom". A lot of people called me "Nance". I was born on a snowy Thursday, December 27, 1951, of parents Clarence and Ella Mae (Eckhart) LaMaster, at the *old* Witham Memorial Hospital in Boone County,
Lebanon, Indiana. My Seester [sic] is Susan (husband Gary) Linn of
Camden, Indiana, and called me "Seester."
I married Randy D. Schnepp on a sunny warm Saturday, July 29, 1972 at Buck Creek United Methodist Church, in
Buck Creek, Indiana, just down the street from where I lived with my parents and sister on the corner. I walked to church with my bridesmaids on my wedding day. My uncle, Rev. Donald LaMaster, performed the ceremony.
As an infant and youngster I attended church in
Kirklin, Indiana. (That church is now a home!) I attended Terhune EUB as a child and middleschooler, up until I was a high school sophomore. There I was in youth choir. I attended Rossville UMC as a teenager. As a member of the Buck Creek United Methodist Church since November 30, 1969, I belonged to the former mighty BCUMC Choir, church newsletter reporter/editor, had been President of the Buck Creek Ladies Missionary Society, was the Flower Lady, e-mail prayer chain moderator, "Sunday Summary" author, and I was the Membership Secretary for 2 years. I started a Women's Breakfast Bible Study at one time. I enjoyed being a member of H.A.W.C.s (Hearts At Work for Christ), and serving on Ad Council for many years, one time as their secretary. I was a kindergarten Sunday School teacher from 1969-1971 at BCUMC with one of my church Moms, Faye Merkel. My church meant a lot to me, as my Eckhart ancestors helped to build it in 1908. I learned to play drums in the school band from 5th grade through my senior year. I was voted outstanding choral member at East Tipp High School in 1970.
I was proud to be a 10 year 4-H member (as were my sons), holding the office of President my tenth year. I was a Brownie & Girl Scout and treasured those memories, especially Girl Scout camp. I enjoyed my time as a member of the Davidson family reunion committee for many years, and editor/reporter of their past newsletter.
Attended Marion Township grades 1-8, in Boone County.
Sheridan High School for my freshman year and part of my sophomore year before moving to Rossville, which completed my sophomore year and Junior year. Then moved to
Buck Creek, Indiana, where I graduated from East Tipp High School in 1970, its last year as a high school. Then I attended Purdue University for 1 year. I graduated from Ivy Tech as a medical assistant in May, 1972, and went on to work for Medical Associates of Delphi, Indiana for 2 years. Going with what my Mom called "Plan B", and putting my well known typing skills to good use, and started as a technical typist in the Theory Office in Physics at Purdue University on April 23, 1975, and worked there until retirement 1-17-2017. I had the same co-worker great late friend (Coleen L. Flanagan) for the first 37 of those years. And one faithful professor friend, Ephraim Fischbach.
I loved cats and I Love Lucy. Life wasn't the same without a cat around. Collecting recipes and baking made me happy. I loved to make my special secret recipe Breakaway Tyrolean cakes to give away at Christmas. I also collected green depression glass. One of the greatest joys of my life was being a mother, and traveling with my family, and writing. I was once told by Pastor Dwight Monical that I had "the gift of transcription".
I enjoyed carpooling to work and home with my husband, as ¬¬¬we both worked in Physics. Another bonus was getting to eat lunch together every work day. I had fun wearing southwestern jewelry. At one time I loved creating and decorating theme trees monthly, in the Theory office. In 2006 I discovered the joy of making floral bouquets, and shared this talent for a few years with family, friends, and church members on occasions for birthdays, get well, or just for a surprise. I loved to do seasonal decorating.
Proceeded in death by my loving mom Ella Mae Eckhart LaMaster Oct. 12, 1995 and my beloved dad Clarence Ray LaMaster in 2003, and my wonderful in-laws Charles William Schnepp in 1994 and Mabel (Wooldridge) Schnepp in 2005. Also preceded by my grandparents, Roman & Sylvia (Davidson) Eckhart, and Roy & Elsie (Thompson) LaMaster, sister-in-law Sherry (Wilson) Schnepp, brother-in-laws Dennis "Judge" Schnepp and Mark Cochran (wife Barb) nephew, Kris Schnepp and great nephew, Linn Scott Guckien. Also fraternal aunts Gladys Prather (husband: Dr. Phil), Evelyn Frick (Husband: Gene) and Norma Perry (husband: Bob). Maternal aunts Cecil Davidson, Mildred Stewart, Wilma McNary, Mary Eckhart. Maternal uncle Donald Eckhart. And my late cousin Peg Eckhart.
Other survivors include sister-in-laws Barb Cochran and Beverly Sipple (husband Charlie) and brother-in-law Rick Schnepp. My nieces & nephews called me "Aunt Nan". Other survivors include 2 nieces: Amy Linn Guicken (husband Scott Guckien) and their son Matt Guckien. Niece Megan Cochran Cotterman, 7 nephews: Ryan Linn (wife Kendra Julian) and their daughters Kinsley and Raeleigh, Robert Cochran (wife: Claire), Andy, Tommy and Matt Sipple, Jeff Schnepp (wife: Sheena), Kurtis Schnepp, and great nieces Autumn Paris Schnepp, Ruby Cochran, Rhennie Cochran, Roper Cochran, and great nephews Rhett & Ramey Cochran. Also other great nephews and many cousins, in-laws, friends, church family, church moms and neighbors.
See you in Heaven!
