Nancy Ruth Williams McDonald Smith, 86, passed away suddenly Friday, August 15, 2025, at Southern Hills Hospital.

She was born October 10, 1938, to Lester and Lillian Moseley Williams and was baptized at Woodson Chapel Church of Christ when she was 12. After graduating from Central High School at age 16, she attended David Lipscomb College. She finished her degree in Elementary Education at MTSU in January 1969.

Even though she lived several other places (California, Georgia, Florida, and Sierra Leone, West Africa), Middle Tennessee was always "home". She traveled with her daughters and sister, and she enjoyed sewing and gardening.

Nancy's faith sustained her throughout life's challenges, and she was a faithful member of Concord Road Church of Christ. She served as church secretary for several years and taught children's Bible classes and went on mission trips to Panama. She was also known for her hospitality, her generosity with food (especially her homemade sourdough bread), her thriftiness and love of bargains, and her love of cats.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Julian McDonald (1932-1965) and J. Garvin Smith (1924-1993); brother and sister-in-law, Frank & Margaret Williams; and step-son, David Smith. She is survived by three daughters, Julia (Don) Elliott, Debbie (Paul) Schwiep, and Jenny (David) Calvin; stepdaughters, Becky (Steven) Cagle and Leah (Eddie, deceased) Snyder; 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren with another one due very soon; brother, Buddy (Linda) Williams; and sister, Suzanne (Clark) Sansom.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, with visitation Thursday evening, August 21, 2025, from 5:00 -7:00 p.m., and Friday, August 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Murfreesboro.

The family expresses their gratitude to her caregivers at Visiting Angels and Stay Home Care.
