Nancy Smith Southers, 89 years passed away on the early morning of May 6. She was born in Washington County, Oklahoma on April 3, 1936 to Walter and Ruby Smith. She was the oldest of 2 children. She grew up in Monkey Run, Arkansas where she graduated from Cotter High School in 1954. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, W C Southers. They were married for 64 years.
She is survived by her sister, Glenna Williams, her daughter Renee Rodgers and husband Jim Rodgers, their 3 children, Jim Lee Rodgers, Zac Rodgers and wife Lindsey, and Rachel Collins and her husband Boomer Collins. She is also survived by her son, Warren Southers and wife Misti who also have 3 children, Weston Southers and his wife Ashley, Addison Hudspeth and her husband Brett Hudspeth, and Jackson Southers and his wife Katie. She was blessed with 10 great grandchildren as well.
Nancy attended Nashville Business Women's College and played on the women's basketball team. She was a secretary by profession and worked for her husband for over 30 years. She loved playing basketball and softball and played up into her 40's. She enjoyed attending her children's games as they played and coached, as well as watching her grandkids play.
She accepted the Lord when she was a young girl at Pilgrims Rest in Arkansas and was a member of First Baptist Church of Duncanville for 55 years.
She was known as "Meemaw" and was the best grandmother and great grandmother. From the words of her grandchildren, she was always available, reliable, and loyal, as well as consistent and a little opinionated. Most of all Meemaw was magic!
Her funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, May 23, 2025, at
First Baptist Church Duncanville, 323 W Wheatland Rd, Duncanville, TX 75116.
A shelter service will follow at DFW National Cemetery at 2:30PM.
