Nancy Jane (Hoagland) Steidl, of South Burlington, VT and former resident of Greenwich, CT and Rainbow Lake, NY, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on July 24, 2025.

Nancy was born in Bridgeport, CT May 30th, 1936, the daughter of Cecil Normand Hoagland and Frances Lindstrom Hoagland. She married Daniel Hildreth Steidl on September 7, 1957 in Bridgeport, CT.

Nancy was a loving wife to her husband and a cherished mother to her children, Karl, Hilary, Heidi, and Jake Steidl. Her love, caring, warmth and family values also extended to her role as a grandmother to Kurt Steidl and Lindsay Steidl Beadon, Tyler Bean and Heather Mcloud, James Anders Steidl and Charlotte Steidl, great-grandmother to Duncan McLoud, Ella Beadon and Daphne Steidl, enriching the lives of those around her with love, laughter, compassion and wisdom.

During her time with us, Nancy touched the lives of many with her care for others over herself, compassionate nature and wonderful spirit. She enjoyed her family, the outdoors, gardening, singing, boating, puzzle solving and her dogs. She filled the hearts of those around her with optimism and joy.

Nancy graduated from high school at The Emma Willard School, Troy, N. Y., and completed her college degree at Skidmore College. She was very active on both schools Boards.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Normand Hoagland and Frances Lindstrom Hoagland and her husband, Daniel Hildreth Steidl.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A memorial service will be held at St. Johns in The Wilderness in Paul Smiths, NY on Saturday September 6th at 11:00 AM, honoring Nancy’s life and legacy. In remembrance, if so inclined, and in lieu of flowers, a contribution in her memory to the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation, [email protected]. would be appreciated by the family.
