Nancy Avent Tobin, of Trenton, New Jersey, peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord and her heavenly family on Sunday, August 31, 2025. She was born to the late Ellen Brunson Gregory and Edward Gregory in Trenton, NJ and lived to be 69 years young.
Nancy attended Trenton Public Schools and graduated from Trenton Central High School, class of 1974. She was a retired Bus Operator for NJ Transit and had fun driving her 609-bus route and the Trenton High School route in the city.
Nancy was affectionately known to her family as "Nan", "Nanny", and "My Mom" and to the town as "Fancy Nancy". In Nancy's younger years, she was called "Pretzel" because of her size. She appreciated life and lived it to the fullest, which included enjoying family cookouts, laughing, and loving on the kids. Nancy would give you the shirt off her back to help you. She was a "real one". She embraced her family and her church family at True Servant Worship & Praise Center. Additionally, she loved going to New York every weekend with her daughter Keisha! She would sell you a good suit, mink coat, oil, or some good ol' socks! And she had her two favorite sock hustlers -Ree Ree Jenkins and Lisa Burnett!
She was preceded in death by her two younger brothers, Timmy and Kevin Avent; only son, Anthony "Big Daddy" Avent; and special cousins, Kim Jackson and Chief Apostle Marva C. Strother.
Nancy leaves to appreciate and cherish her memories her two beautiful daughters, Keisha Avent (Daryl) and Nie Avent; wonderful grandchildren, Isiah "Zake" Avent, Nayquan "Quan" Avent, Aariona "Moe Moe" Avent, Rahmeir "Meir Meir" Avent, Roland "RoRo" Powell, and Kareem "Reem" Avent; great grandchildren, Amari "Smooch" Pearson-Avent, Bryceen Avent and Kayori Avent ("Twin"); special nieces and nephews, Kevin "Lil Kev" Avent, Sebrass "Brassy" Avent, Alexis "Letty" Sweet, Tracy Wright, Daniel Ramsey and Emmett Terry; sister-in-law, Lillie Avent; close cousins, James "Boo Lou" Jackson, Sharon Jackson, Rogee Jackson, and Linda Jackson; goddaughters whom she loved, Lori Hopkins, Kimyata "Boosie" Glover, Khaamillyaa "KK" Scott, and Shakeea Jenkins; homeboys, Lou and Leon Matlock, Andy Rawson, and Cricket; homegirls, Lit Dean, Edna Marie Sweet, Kathy McBride, Helene Patilla, Alice Brundage, Niecy McNair, and Joyce Turner; and a host of extended family and friends from North Trenton, Wilbur Section and the NA Family. She also adored Bishop Earl Jenkins and "Ma" Ethel Jenkins and loved Carl Jenkins' singing and "her boy" Donelle Presha.
Nancy was loved and respected by many and will genuinely be missed on this Earth.
