Mr. Nathan Smith, age 81 of Rutherford, Tennessee, passed peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be conducted on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 10AM in the Rutherford chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Crews and Bro. Andy Mayfield officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford Cemetery.
Nathan was born February 6, 1943, in Gibson County, TN; the son of the late L.V. & Virginia (Hubble) Smith. He held many positions in the banking industry. Nathan previously worked for Union Planters Bank, was VP of the First State Bank, then onward to Regions until his retirement. Nathan then came out of retirement to work at Centennial Bank as a banker/loan officer before his last retirement. He also was an active member of Rutherford First Baptist Church.
Mr. Smith is survived by three children, Jeffery A. ‘Jeff’ Smith of Rutherford, Jill Smith Koback of Murfreesboro, and Jerianne Smith Poe (Travis) of Murfreesboro; sister, Addie Rose Brelsford of Rutherford; three grandchildren, Samantha Koback, Asher Poe, Ansley Poe; niece, Jenny Brelsford Turner (Kevin); nephew, John Brelsford; great niece, Julianna Turner; and great nephew, Ethan Turner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Smith.
The family will receive friends from 5PM – 8PM on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the Rutherford chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Nathan Smith.
