I just saw the message of Nathan's passing on the Dare Market sign and am shocked and saddened by the news. I met Nathan in 2015 through his regular visits to my place of employment. He was a pleasure to serve - patient, complimentary and kind. My deepest condolences to the family. I'm sure he'll be greatly missed!

Nathan was one of the kindest human beings I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. His absence will be felt by so many. I always looked forward to his birthday wishes each year. My sympathies to his entire family.

Nathan and all of the Smiths have all been such wonderful neighbors. Nathan was a kind and caring person and a Dare fixture. Richard and I are so sorry we won't be able to attend the services but I was just released from the hospital yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the Smiths.

I was so shocked to hear of Nathan's passing when it was announced last night at the York County Republican Committee meeting. I always enjoyed our digital message conversations about politics and history and will miss them greatly. I'm so glad you were able to join the York Republican Women's Club DC trip to tour the White House Christmas decorations, the Bureau of Printing & Engraving, and the Supreme Court this past December! I will truly miss learning Yorktown's personal history tales from you. Thank you, Nathan, for your kindness and patriotism; you will be greatly missed! Prayers of strength & comfort for your family.
Eternal rest grant unto Nathan Smith, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace. Amen. ❤

Nathan truly will be missed. He is a family institution, our last farmer, our historian, a gentle soul who I remember from the earliest days of my childhood. Sincere condolences from our family to the Smith family. May our memories soften our grief.

Dear Nathan,
How do we begin to tell how kind, sweet and intelligent you were.. You had a heart of gold. You kept all of " York High Schoolers" together and in touch with each other. Your knowledge of the history of York County was fantastic. I loved coming down to your house at the marina to buy vegetables from your wonderful garden, figs and pecans and our phone conversations about your garden and my granddaddy's boat building business in Dandy.. I loved talking to you and your wonderful mother. You were one of the kindest people in the world and you were loved my millions. You will be missed Nathan and you left a empty place in our hearts. Your truly earned your wings here on earth.. My heart goes out to your sweet mama, and all of your family. I will continue to keep them all in my prayers. You are watching over all of them from heaven. I know it was a wonderful rejoicing in heaven with all of the YHS classmates who went to heaven before you.. I know you were all telling stories and you are all together along with your daddy and your sister. We love you Nathan.. hugs to heaven

I am so sorry to hear about Nathan. He was such a kind and caring person and a big part of the Wynne Road community. I remember he swapped fresh pecans every year for my mom, Betsy Covington's homemade cinnamon rolls or whatever else she had baking.
After my parents died, Nathan made sure I received a Christmas card from him and his mom. This past Christmas, he knew I had asked about Lillian so he sent me a photo of her and an update. His thoughtfulness brought a little bit of home to me every year.
Please know that I send my deepest condolences.

To the Smith Family - there are no words to describe how much Nathan will be missed - he was our family "historian" as well. He knew all our birthdays and how old we all were - have no idea how he did it. Nathan had a heart of gold and everybody loved him. He was my nephew and I will miss him so very much. My heart goes out to his immediate family. But we can take comfort in knowing he is now having a great reunion with his Dad and sister in Heaven and one day we will all be together.
