Dudley - With profound sorrow and empathy, the management and staff of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors join with the Reid and connected families to announce the earthly departure of Mr. Nathaniel Reid, 64. Mr Reid transitioned at his residence on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
Nathaniel Reid, Jr was born to the late Bro. Nathaniel William & Evangelist Emma Hamilton Reid, on January 2, 1961, Goldsboro, North Carolina. On Thursday, February 20, 2025, Nathaniel Reid, Jr., completed his assignment and transitioned from labor to reward.
He was educated in the Wayne County Public School system and graduated from Goldsboro High School with the class of 1980. Nathaniel was a very athletic student; he enjoyed playing football. Upon completion of High School, Nathaniel enlisted in the United States Army as an M1 Abrams tank mechanic, where he served for several years until he was honorably discharged.
Nate, as we called him, was a very talented man. He was an awesome artist, musician, singer, and songwriter. Nate played several musical instruments, including bass, lead guitar, drums, saxophone, organ, piano, and keyboard. He played for numerous churches in the surrounding areas of North Carolina and sang in several gospel groups. Nate also ministered music in a few other states, including Florida and Kentucky.
Nate grew up in and was a Greater Guiding Star UHC member under the Pastorate of the late Reverend J.D. Brown until he left for service in the military. Years after he returned from the military, he became a member of the Upper Room church, where he served as a musician under the pastorship of Pastor James Woodley.
Nate was preceded in death by his parents, Bro. Nathaniel Reid and Evangelist Emma Hamilton Reid.
Nate leaves to cherish his many years of precious memories to his daughter Cynthia Artis of Goldsboro, NC; one son Nathaniel "Little Nate" Reid of Ft. Meyers, Florida; three sisters: Genia (Terry) Taylor of Atlanta, GA; Jacqueline Hunter of Burlington, NC; and Jeannie Williams of Goldsboro, NC; two brothers: Gary Reid of Dudley, NC, Darryl Reid of Fayetteville, NC; one aunt Minister Annie Carter of Goldsboro, NC; one uncle Jerome Wooten of Goldsboro, NC; and one special friend Angela C. Hobbs of Maryland; three grandchildren: Makia (Bryan) Rutland of San Antonio, TX, Keono Speight of Goldsboro, NC, Diego Speight of Tinker, Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren: Kamari, Braxton and Brielle all of San Antonio, Texas; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
