TERRELL, Deacon Nathaniel "The Skate" - Age 85, passed away Wednesday December 25, 2024 at Henry Ford Hospital - West Bloomfield. Family hour 10:00AM Friday, January 3, 2025 at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, 69 S. Astor Street, with funeral service commencing immediately at 11:00AM. Pastor Al James Terrell, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 North Belford Rd. Holly, Michigan. Mr. Terrell will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 268 North Perry Street, and may be viewed from 12:00PM-6:00PM Thursday.
Nathaniel Terrell was born on Wednesday, May 10, 1939, in Hoy, Mississippi. His life is a testament to hard work and dedication. Nathaniel was the youngest of six siblings born to his late parents, Rev. Joseph Nebraska Terrell and Janie Stewart-Terrell. He built a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Barbara Jean Hill-Terrell, who passed away after 60 years of marriage.
Nathaniel valued education and embraced opportunities throughout his life. He proudly served as a U.S. Army veteran and was a lifelong charter member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was actively involved in the male chorus. For three decades, Nathaniel was a respected supervisor at General Motors Company, demonstrating strong leadership and commitment to his work.
Nathaniel leaves behind a cherished legacy through his loving family, including his children: Faye Vaughn, Tammara "Tammy" Terrell, Sandra (James) Johnson, and Nathan (Avril) Terrell. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Antoine, Jeremiah, Nia, Zechariah, Zoria, Zachary, Ethan, and Sanaa, as well as his great-grandchild, Catalaya, and many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Rev. Al James (Tina) Terrell of Pontiac, MI, his beloved goddaughter Leah Buggs, and a wide circle of relatives and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Nathaniel was preceded in death by his siblings: Rev. Theodis Terrell, Dora Lee Bonds, Nezzie Lee Weems, and Herman Terrell. His impact on the lives of his loved ones will never be forgotten.
