Neil Joseph Sutherland, age 58, of, of Ionia, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, December 23, 2024. He was born in Newport, Kentucky, son of Gary Starr and Joann (Bohlman) Sutherland. Neil worked for much of his life as a self-employed construction and repairs contractor. Health challenges forced an early retirement however he had many hobbies and interests to keep him busy. He bought and sold knives and other collectibles and kept a collection of his own. He painted and enjoyed all forms of art. Neil also loved watching movies and music was, for him, truly a passion. He played acoustic and electric guitar, loved showing his grandson how to play, and he looked forward to jam-sessions with his dear friends, Joe and Shawn, who were like brothers to him. Neil loved his family dearly and engaged in long philosophical conversations, sought to expand his knowledge whenever he could, and was always good for advice.
Neil leaves to cherish his memory his dear mother, JoAnn Bohlman Sutherland; his sons, William Leiter, Eric (Megan) Leiter and Noah (Izola) Sutherland; his grandchildren, Caleb, Austin, Gracie, Jax, and Revan; a brother Kevin (Shari) Sutherland; nieces Moriah, Melinda and Nicole, and a nephew Elias; and many cousins.
