Nell C. Cline, 92, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away on January 16, 2026 at NHC Somerville. She was born on June 20, 1933 in Panola County, Mississippi to Earnest and Claire Childress. Prior to her stay at NHC Somerville, she lived in Olive Branch, Mississippi for many years.

Nell grew up as a true Mississippi girl meeting Boyd Arnold, Jr. in a cotton field. They married in 1950 and immediately went to Maryland while he served in the Korean War. They made their home in Mississippi for several years prior to moving to Memphis, Tennessee. They had many adventures including numerous road trips and camping all over the US until his death in 1978.

Nell married George “Ed” Cline in 1982. They lived in Memphis prior to moving to Olive Branch. They enjoyed a wonderful life together – filled with travel both abroad and in the US, family gatherings and their church, Capleville United Methodist. Ed passed away in 2016.

Nell was an accomplished seamstress, immaculate homemaker and extraordinary grandmother. While she loved her travels, her greatest joy came from being a grandmother and she did it with immense love and joy.

She is survived by her son, Gilbert Arnold (Cathy), daughter, Donna Winfrey (Whit), and stepdaughter, Anne Garretson (Mike), grandchildren Kimberlee, Lisa, Adam and Brandon, step grandchildren Michael, Melissa and Angela, four great grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by many beloved family and friends, including her step granddaughter, Jennifer.

A graveside service for Ms. Cline will be held at 1 on Thursday afternoon, January 22, 2026, at the Somerville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, an organization Ed and Nell supported through the years.
