Nell Rose Duke, 85, of Shongaloo, LA passed away on January 5, 2025.

The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on January 25, 2025 at Old Shongaloo Rock Church. Dr. Ronnie Burns and Dr. Jeff Smart will be officiating.

Nell Rose was born in Springhill, Louisiana on December 26, 1939. She graduated from Shongaloo High School and continued on to receive a bachelors degree in education from Southern Arkansas University.

Nell Rose was married to Tommy Waylon Duke on May 8, 1956. They were married 68 years. Nell Rose was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Nell Rose worked as a school teacher for 40 years. She enjoyed swimming in her pool, gardening, reading books, and spending time with family.

 Nell Rose is survived by her husband Tommy Waylon Duke; two sons Tommy Michael Duke (wife Kim) of Haughton, LA, and Gregory Keith Duke (wife Karen) of Azle, TX; grandchildren Dana Bryan, Sean Cole, Sarah Akeroyd, Travis Duke, and Ashley Buzbee; great-grandchildren Austin, Grant, Carter, Emily, Fallon, Bryden, and other family and friends.

Nell Rose is preceded in death by her parents Durell and Mildred Modisett; two brothers Drayton and Lane Modisett; and one daughter Terri Lynn Cole.

The Duke family would like to give a special thank you to all of Nell Rose’s caregivers over the years.

Though Nell Rose has departed from this world, her spirit will live on in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
