Nellie Corene Brooks, age 91, of Bethel, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the Talihina Manor Nursing Home in Talihina, Oklahoma. She was born on Wednesday, January 31, 1934, to William Lee and Hettie Kiess Phillips in Bethel, Oklahoma.
Nellie was a loving, devoted woman whose heart and home were always open to others. No one ever left her house hungry - she was known for her delicious beans, fried potatoes, biscuits, and homemade jellies that brought everyone to the table. Nellie was a faithful wife to her husband, Rodgers, and the two were inseparable throughout their 69 years together. Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She loved to sew, crochet, and work with wood, finding joy in creating with her hands. A woman of strong faith, Nellie was a proud Baptist who lived her life with love, grace, and kindness. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Nellie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rodgers Brooks; two sons, Steve Brooks and Terry Brooks; one daughter, Mary Jane White; one brother, Mason Phillips; four sisters, Melva Winship, Ruby Anderson, Bessie Davis and Daisy Rash; one grandson, Eric Brooks and one great-grandson, Mackenzie Guffey.
Nellie is survived by her two daughters and son in law, Tommie Donaldson of Talihina, Oklahoma and Anneta and William Huggins of Longview, Texas; one son in law, John White, of Idabel, Oklahoma; one daughter in law, Carolyn Brooks, of Bethel, Oklahoma; one brother, Matt Phillips of Idabel, Oklahoma; eighteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many other beloved family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 14, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at the Battiest Baptist Church with Brother Archie Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Bethel, Oklahoma. Visitation will be general. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
