Nellie Ruth Owens was born August 8, 1935 in Upshur County, Texas to the late Amos W. Owens and Sarah Lee Dunson. Our mother gained her wings on February 25, 2024 at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two sons, Perry (Claudia) Espie of DeSoto, Texas and Jimmy (Winderlyn) Owens of Tyler, Texas; five daughters, Sara Hollins of Pittsburg, Texas, Magalene Rayne of Huntsville, Texas, Gloria McCain Matthew of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Tewana (Nicolas) Owens of Ore City, Texas, and Alishia (Bryan) Brewer of Bradenton, Florida; one brother, Harrison (Jean) Owens, II of Antelope, California; four sisters, Eara (LoGene) Aldridge of Wichita Falls, Texas, Shirley Nelson of Longview, Texas, Phyllis Johnson of Longview, Texas, and Flora Jean (James) Young of Longview, Texas; one uncle, Bobby Lee Fort of Gilmer, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 8 great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members; as well as special godchildren, Krystal and Mark Bunt of Dallas and Lone Star, Texas.
The loved ones who preceded her in death are: her parents; four uncles, J.B. Owens, Travis Wright, Marice Owens, and K.C. Owens; three brothers, Gene "Dead Eye" Owens, Raymond Stranger, Charles Espie; one grandson, Stevie "Stank" Chaney; one great-granddaughter, Keyonna Doddy; four aunts, Maude Douglas, Carrie Devance, Mavallie Hughes, and Velma Richardson; three sons-in-law, Claude Matthew, Louis Hollins, and Jody B. Hill; and a special pet, "Brownie".
