Nelson Orwick Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lake Erie Cremation and Funeral Services on Sep. 19, 2025.
NELSON DENNIS ORWICK age 59, of Geneva, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 15, 2025, of natural causes. Nelson was born March 14, 1966, in Euclid, Ohio to Charles and Grace Orwick (nee Ostrander), both deceased. Nelson attended Mentor High School, graduating in 1984, but previously to that, he went to Gulf Jr High, in New Port Richey, Florida. Nelson loved cars and most especially racing them! He spent time at Painesville Speedway mostly, but occasionally made his way to other tracks, as a spectator, even NASCAR. He was an avid snowmobiler in the winter and in the summer, he enjoyed camping at Lake Village Campground, where he had a camper, in Andover, Ohio. Nelson was active on the Facebook Criminal Activity pages using his police scanner, keeping communities informed, and was one of the administrators for the Ashtabula/Geauga Criminal Activity Page. During his down time, he would relax with his six dogs at home. But Nelson wasn't the type to usually sit still and was always tinkering with a car, camping, listening to the scanner, or hanging out with friends at the local tavern. It was mentioned his love of cars, and he was a racing enthusiast at Painesville Speedway for many years, starting in the Trophy Stock class and ending in the Sportsman class, before retiring his racing career. Nelson has worked in many places over the years, but most recently worked for Elite Towing Solutions in Mentor. He started there only in February of this year; however, he has made quite an impression, earning the AAA Overall Satisfaction Award for Outstanding Member Service. He was very well liked and respected by his coworkers as well. He has earned many awards, trophies, and recognitions over the years not just through his employment, but extracurriculars, as well and too many to list. Nelson could make friends anywhere he went, and he could talk your ear off, if you let him. There isn't anyone who didn't like him because he made friends everywhere he went, and his reputation precedes him. He could make you laugh; he would help you fix anything you needed; he would give you the shirt off his back. Survivors are his son, Noah Orwick (Brianna) of Fairport Harbor and his brother, Charles Orwick, Jr (Valerie) of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Grace Orwick (nee Ostrander), brother Daniel W. Orwick, and sister Catherine Carol Kingery (nee Orwick). The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:30 PM at Lakeshore Assembly of God, Saturday, September 27, 2025, prior to the service at 6:30 PM. Private burial will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens at a later date. There will be no reception, but the family will be going out to dinner (TBD) after. Friends are welcome and encouraged to join, however, please be prepared to pay separately. Donations can be made to: GoFundMe "In Memory of Nelson D Orwick" or in person at the church. Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Rd, Geneva, OH 44041, assisted the family with arrangements. (440) 361-2273. www.lakeeriecrematory.com.

I am fairly new at the place Nelson worked and he was openly helpful and courteous. I learned a lot from him and I think about many of the things he recommended to me often. I am glad to have met him and sorry to hear that he has passed. My condolences and thoughts to all who are affected by his passing. Rest in peace, Nelson. -Barry
