Robert Joseph Shiels

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert Joseph Shiels, affectionately known as Bob, who left us on February 21, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on February 18, 1961, in Cleveland, Ohio, Bob was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served honorably as part of the "Old Guard" at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. His dedication to service was matched only by his love for his family and his thirst for knowledge.

Bob graduated from Mentor High School in 1979 and furthered his education at Lakeland Community College. There, he excelled both academically and athletically, earning All-American honors in soccer. He remained a lifelong learner, always eager to expand his horizons and share his discoveries.

Living in Mentor, Ohio, he was known for his quick wit and playful sense of humor-he was the kind of guy who never shied away from a good prank. His passion for sports not only led him to glory on the field but also fueled his enthusiasm for cheering on his nieces and nephews as they pursued their own athletic dreams.

An avid reader and book collector, Bob had an insatiable curiosity about the world around him. He also enjoyed spending time on the golf course or playing soccer, always maintaining an active lifestyle. Bob was a true gentleman-a loving brother, uncle, great uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend who touched the lives of everyone around him.

Bob is survived by his loving siblings, Myra Malesky, Kathy Trivette, Rose (David) Eyth, and Mike (Liz) Shiels, his nieces and nephews, Shawna (Jeromie) Riley, Rosemary (Dinko) Hajdukovic, Ann (Jon) Schleicher, James Malesky, Katie (Adam) Malesky, Ryan Trivette, Joe Trivette, Meghan Trivette, Aidan Shiels, and Maryn Shiels, his numberous great neices and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert and Margaret Shiels.

Bob's visitation is 4-8 pm on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Monreal Srnick Funerals & Cremations.

Bob's Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church (Painsville) on February 28, 2026, at 12:00PM
