Nelson Viera

Nelson Luis Viera, of Newington, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 10, 2025 in the arms of his wife Milka after a 13-year battle with Parkinson's, Dementia, and Alzheimer's Diseases.
Nelson was born to Carmen Garcia Colon Rentas and Ermenio Viera in Arroyo, Puerto Rico on October 18, 1950.
Nelson was an avid musician who played with Orchestra la Moderna in Puerto Rico for several years during the early 70s. He was to be recruited as a bongo player by Sonera Poncena, a famous salsa band from Ponce, Puerto Rico, but instead decided to marry the love of his life Milka. Nelson and Milka met in Puerto Rico in 1973 and were married on October 31, 1974. Together they made the tough decision to move to the United States for a better future for their family.
On March 1, 1976, their first son Nelson Viera Jr., was born in Puerto Rico. Six months later they moved to Methuen, MA. Three years later, in 1979, their second son Danny Viera was born in Massachusetts.
Nelson worked at 55 Farmington Avenue in Hartford as a Building Superintendent prior to his retirement in 2013 after 22 years of service.
Nelson is preceded in death by his parents Carmen Garcia Rentas and Ermenio Viera and brother Felix Jaun Viera.
Nelson is survived by his wife Milka Viera; his sons Nelson Viera Jr. and Danny Viera; his granddaughter Ashley Marie Viera; his brother Hector Mendoza; his daughter-in-law Nancy Guzman; his nieces Carmen Viera, Mary Mendoza, and Carmen Mendoza; and his nephews Reinaldo Viera, Feliz Viera Jr., Pablo Mendoza and Hector Mendoza Jr.
Friends and family are invited to call on the Viera family on Friday, October 17, 2025 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield.
