Bohdan Krasij

Bohdan Krasij, 92, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday November 5th, 2025. He was born in the village of Kryvoluka, Ukraine, on May 20th, 1933, son of Hnat and Olena Krasij. Bohdan lived near Munich, Germany in a displaced persons camp, until their family immigrated to the United States in 1949. He was drafted into the military in 1953 and rose to the rank of Technician Corporal in the U.S Army. He then attended UConn and had a successful career as a mechanical engineer specializing in circuit breaker design and was granted multiple patents for his work. Beloved husband of 51 years to Helena Krasij, residing in Avon, CT, he was also the beloved father of his daughter and three sons. Bohdan was a parishioner at St. Michael The Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hartford. He also sang in the Dibrova Choir and enjoyed many years of Plast Scouting. Bohdan instilled in his family a deep faith in God and love for his Ukrainian heritage. Bohdan had a lifelong passion for soccer and, as a player and manager, successfully led the Hartford Ukrainians to a League Championship. He earned New England All-Star Team honors at UConn and later coached and refereed youth soccer into his 80s. He is survived by his wife, Helena, and children Alexander Bohdan Krasij, Mark Andrew Krasij (Laura), Larysa Olga Krasij, and Victor Myron Krasij (Stephanie); his cherished 4 grandchildren: Bohdy, Mychalina, Andrij, Cecilia and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his sister Anna Krywonis, his brother Myron Krasij and his wife Irene. Bohdan was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Maria, Julia, Jaroslawa, and Stephanie. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Saturday, November 15th at 11:30am at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church, 135 Wethersfield Ave., Hartford, followed by a burial service at St. Michaels Ukrainian Cemetery in Glastonbury. Calling hours at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield, CT will be Friday November 14th, from 5-7pm during which time a Panachyda service will be held at 6:30pm.
