Obituary
Brief Sketch of Life
Nena Michelle Torrence was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on August 18, 1973. She was the oldest born to Rene and Carl Torrence.
She attended grade schools in Dallas, Texas and Indianapolis, Indiana growing up. She graduated from North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. While there Nena participated in the school choir and led the choir with her beautiful voice. After high school she attended Vincennes University to further study business. Later went on to graduate Indiana Business College with her associate degree in accounting. She continued to explore her many talents and attended Cosmetology school where she started her career in the beauty industry.
Nena was so creative and multi-talented, literally a jack of all trades! There was nothing Nena couldn't do. Tell her she can't do something; she'll do it twice and take pictures! Nena was loved by her family and friends. The life of the party and the listening ear or helping hand to those she loved. Nena loved dancing. She was always somewhere dancing to her own beat. Whether it's one hundred people or just her in the room alone, she was going to be unapologetically and authentically "Nena T"! She also had a love for singing. Nena was a God-fearing woman, who led the choir with her anointing spirit and captivating voice. In her down time, she enjoyed painting and creating. Her artwork was a re5ection of her and always came out a masterpiece. Nena was a one-of-a-kind gem. Her genuine die-hard love for her family and friends is what made her a joy to experience.
As she grew older she was blessed into motherhood and welcomed her greatest gift to the world, her one and only Ahnna! If you knew Nena you knew Ahnna. The two shared an unbreakable bond that was so special the whole world could see it. Nena was always so proud of Ahnna and all her accomplishments. Nena absolutely loved to share her joy about Ahnna to any and everyone who would listen. The mother daughter duo was one to admire. Not only was she the best role model for Ahnna she also touched the lives of Ahnna's friends and treated them as her own. Giving them the Nena experience! Nena may have only had Ahnna but in reality, she was momma Nena to many and will truly be missed.
Nena loved to travel throughout her adult years, her and Ahnna would travel the states enjoying life together. Then Nena found her person, her Sammie! Her and Sam had a bond that was perfect just for them. They traveled the world together and shared 10 years of some of the best memories to be cherished forever. Nena was preceded in death by her father, Carl W. Torrence Sr.
She is survived by her mother, Rene D. Torrence; companion Samuel E. Ward III; daughter: Ahnna M. Manning ; brothers, Carl W. Torrence II (Amber), and Henry Davis (Brandy); sister: Megan R. Johantgen (Wolfie); nephews, Carl Torrence III, Coby Torrence, Cory Torrence, Qradric Davis, and Emaz Davis; nieces: Destany Jones, Darye Davis and Caitlin Smith along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Everyone will remember Nena and her beauty inside and out; she will truly be missed.

First, I would like to say my condolences to Nena loved ones! Speechless for the first time really in life I would like to say she would be missed! I enjoyed working with Nena at FedEx and learned how to love and smile again! She taught me to love the skin, natural hair and nails I was in. She also showed love when my days was long. You will be missed my friend. Thank you for so many beautiful memories!

I will never forget the time Nena planned a trip with Ahnna and Destany and myself to go to Disney World, my only request was please don't have us on a tiny plane where you have to walk out on the runway and go up steps to get on the plane, she says " It's a regular sized plane, I think". Of course it was a tiny plane, she just smiled and laughed, her smile was contagious so I couldn't be mad at all, we ended up having a ball. I'm so glad that I got to meet Nena. She will be missed but never forgotten.

I´ll never forget when our daughters (Ahnna, Kristen & Leea) played in the band in Lancaster, TX. One of their first performances was the MLK parade. We were so excited and proud of them. We were cheering them on and walking along with them. Such sweet memories. Sending my condolences and praying for Ahnna and the whole family. May God keep you all in his loving arms. - Candace Barnes
