Nia Margrethe Jensen beloved daughter, sister, cousin and aunt passed away peacefully and returned to her Heavenly Father on October 18, 2024 at the age of 88.
She was born in Maglemer, Denmark to Harder Nicolaj Jensen and Anna Kirstine Pedersen Jensen on May 28, 1936. She enjoyed her youth growing up in Denmark. She often spoke of her adventures with family and friends back in Denmark. She was proud of her Danish heritage. She continued Danish traditions throughout her life, especially those revolving around Christmas. Christmas Eve was always a special time with family and friends beginning with a traditional dinner. There were a few interesting Danish Christmas dishes that you had either loved, developed a taste for or didn't dare try simply because of the way they looked (which was deceiving). Christmas Eve celebrations always ended with the rice pudding tradition, the one who found the whole almond in their bowl was the winner of a prize, traditionally provided by Nia.
Nia came to the United States in November 1960. She quickly built close friendships that lasted a life time. She learned to speak fluent English and loved America and the opportunities it provided. She enjoyed American culture. She loved going to movies and plays. She enjoyed the variety of food and drinks America had to offer. Peanut butter she hated!
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings. She loved all the interactions she had with people at church and always spoke highly of them. She truly enjoyed their company.
She was very active and always on the go. She enjoyed participating in many activities with family and friends including playing tennis, hiking, biking, swimming, water and snow skiing, roller and ice skating and traveling the world. She returned several times to visit her childhood home of Denmark.
She loved hosting events; it was the Danish blood in her. Anyone who stopped by for a visit would not leave without being offered something to eat and drink. It was hard to resist because she had all kinds of breads, cheeses, cookies, candies, chocolates, and an assortment of drinks. If you tried to decline, you were sent home with a goodie bag full of deliciousness. She made the best Danish cookies. Every Christmas she would bake large batches and share them with family, neighbors and her many friends. If you came by during Christmas time, you left with a bag of Danish cookies.
Nia loved a good party and wouldn't miss one for the world. She threw herself a birthday party every year. Friends and family would gather together and spend hours enjoying one another's company. Food, cake and ice cream was always a must at her birthday parties.
Nia was always positive and optimistic, never letting a situation get her down. She faced challenges head on. She had a huge impact on many lives and will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her father Harder, her mother Anna and her brother Vagn.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday October 25, 2024 at Holladay 14th Ward, 4917 South Viewmont Street, Holladay, UT 84117. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior to the service. Interment will be at Elysian Burial Gardens
