Obituary published on Legacy.com by Staton-Borowski Funeral Home on May 28, 2024.
Sunday mornings on the west side of Warren will never be the same. The laughter will not be as loud, the stories will not be as meaningful, and the pasta will not be as delicious. The city of Warren and the Angelo Family said goodbye to a strong, loving leader on May 26th when Nicholas Angelo passed away at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in 1935 as the sixth of seven sons to Joe and Assunta Angelo, the life-long resident of Warren graduated from Harding High School in 1954. He earned his bachelor's from Western Reserve University in Cleveland and his master's from Westminster College. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
Nick had a long and successful career with Warren City Schools as a counselor, coach, and teacher. He enriched the lives of hundreds of students, faculty, and staff during his tenure with the school system. He served as Athletic Director during the early 70's when Harding and Reserve took turns winning state football championships. Nick oversaw the implementation of Title IX, which significantly expanded girls sport programs in Warren City Schools. He then served as Business Manager until his retirement in 1990. He was an inductee in the Warren Sports Hall of Fame and the Warren City Schools Hall of Fame.
Nick enjoyed bocce, Morra, and the annual family reunion at Lake Erie. He poured his heart into planning the reunion each year, to make sure it would be the "best one yet".
On August 12th, 1961, Nick married Kathleen Hernon, also of Warren, in St. Mary's Church. During their more than 60 years of marriage, they raised 6 children, 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Their legacy of faith, love, family, and commitment is an inspiration to every person who has ever visited their home on Tod Avenue.
Nick had an exceptional passion for maintaining family connections. In addition to hosting Sunday morning get-togethers and "any excuse for a party" at his home, Nick established the family traditions of an annual party on Lake Erie (began in 1980) and a Family Newsletter in 1972 which continues to this day.
In addition to his parents, Nicholas is preceded in death by his brothers Ralph, Fio, Carl, Carmen, Tony, and son Edward. He is survived by wife Kathleen, brother Jim, children Carol Malfatti (Steve, Maryland), Lucy Lepola (Warren), Robert (Joy, Warren), Dan (Cara, North Dakota), and Jean Neice (Virginia). Seventeen grandchildren include Maria (Zak, Warren), Edward (Nita, Pennsylvania), Joseph, Gina (Owen, Illinois), Dallas, Samuel (Katie, North Carolina), Stephanie, Noah, Amberly, Ally, Holly, Daniel, Isaac, Zakari, Robert, Gabriel, and Ruby.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am Thursday, May 30, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Warren, where the funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am Thursday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Nick's name to the St Vincent de Paul Society of Trumbull County, 2431 Niles Rd SE Warren Ohio 44484.
The Family is grateful for the love and support of this community.
