Nicholas Ralph Anzelmo, Jr., 97, also known as Nick or Ralph, was born on May 4, 1926 in
Independence, Kansas and passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at his home in
Arkansas City, Kansas. He was born to the union of Nicholas Ralph Anzelmo, Sr., and Helen Anzelmo (Cooper).
Nick attended Independence Public Schools graduating high school in 1944. Additionally, he attended Independence Community College and the University of Kansas. He served honorably in the Marines, Coast Guard, and Marine Reserves. On November November 23, 1950, he married Phyllis Nadine Anzelmo, known as Nadine, producing three children (names listed above) and were happily married until Nadine's death in 2006.
Nick had a long and successful career at Boeing Aircraft Company as an electrical engineer. He was also employed at Kansas Gas and Electric, now known as Evergy. He retired in 1987. On January 5, 2008, Nick married Alyce Wenner Williams and they remained happily married until his death.
After his family and friends, the two most important things for Nick were the American Red Cross and the United Methodist Church. He was passionate about the Red Cross by contributing 40+ gallons of blood over the course of his life and working tirelessly at Blood Mobile Days and teaching swimming and water safety classes. Nick contributed untold hours to First United Methodist, Arkansas City. He helped with the physical needs of the church building and grounds, cooked and served meals, and was active in Sunday School.
He is survived by his wife, Alyce Wenner Williams Anzelmo, daughter Nicki Lynn Anzelmo-Skelton (Fred), his son David Kim Anzelmo (Pam) and daughter Valerie Faye Anzelmo-Kennedy (Mike), as well as six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Aside from his wife, Alyce, and children Nicki, David and Valerie, Nick leaves behind to cherish his memory, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Additionally, he leaves behind 2 stepchildren, 9 step grandchildren, 30 step greatgrandchildren and 2 step great greatgrandchildren.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Opal Short, his brother Joseph Anzelmo and his wife Phyllis Nadine Anzelmo. Nick made a huge difference in all the communities he lived in throughout his life.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home at 100 E. Kansas Ave.,
Arkansas City, Kansas. His funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church, Arkansas City. Reverend Steve Rankin will officiate. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Red Cross, First United Methodist Church, or Gentiva Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
