Nick Bang's enthusiasm for life was contagious. He wanted everyone he loved to be genuinely happy. Nick was born in
Oakland, California, on February 27th, 1987 to Gordon "Andy" and Margaret Bang. His sister Christina was 3 and his brother Michael was 17 months old. His family moved from Alameda to Moraga when he was a year old. Nick's brother Patrick was born 3 years later -their family now complete!
Nick's childhood was a happy one - constantly moving, busy playing backyard games of hide and seek with his three siblings and gathering with local family and cousins for every holiday. Nick's family went camping most summers and enjoyed the Lair of the Bear family camp each June from 1991-2001. Family trips included Florida, Disneyworld, the Bahamas, Alaska, and Las Vegas where Nick was always "up to something" fun, risky and always exciting! Winters brought vacations to Tahoe where Nick excelled on the slopes as a skier and snowboarder!
Nick was a natural athlete. He played every team and individual sport - soccer, baseball, basketball, tennis, swimming, football, wrestling, skateboarding, track and field, cross country, lacrosse, volleyball, skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, hiking, running, yoga and weightlifting!
Nick was a boy scout in Troop 212, and he received his Eagle Scout award in May, 2004 and his Eagle project is still being used by MVPC Nurtury today.
Nick was never an amateur for long when it came to hobbies he enjoyed. He was a skilled juggler and yo-yoer at a very young age, excelled in sports and games, and when we picked up a new craft, he would study it to mastery. This inclination toward mastery laid the path to his admirable career teaching music.
Music came naturally to Nick. Growing up in a family of musicians, Nick forged his own path in vocal music. After joining the choir in high school Nick graduated from Campolindo High School in 2006 and completed a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Music Performance from California State University East Bay in 2012.
Nick established his own business teaching music after college graduation. He was quickly hired by Campolindo Choir as a Vocal Coach, working with the Men's Chorus. He also worked with the SF Young Women's Chorus, taught at Music N Beyond and performed with Festival Opera. His passion for teaching also led him to teach Music Together, where he guided classes for parents with young children.
His strong musical foundation made learning new instruments easy for Nick. In his thirties, having mostly studied voice and piano, Nick quickly picked up ukulele, mandolin, and guitar. Ostensibly for use as aids in his classes, he soon mastered the instruments and developed a personal performance style that combined his various expertise into a unique musical experience.
Nicholas is survived by his loving parents Margaret and Andy, his three siblings Christina, Michael and Patrick and their spouses, Colby, Faryn and Karin, and his three young nephews Michael, Jonathan and Malakai. We love him and we miss him.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to the Campolindo Choir (www.campochoir.com) or Cantare con Vivo (www.cantareconvivo.org).
