Nicholas Joseph Haight, affectionately known as "Hack," passed away on March 14, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on June 5, 1955, in Washington, D.C., he led a life filled with kindness, love, and dedicated service to his family and community.
Hack earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Economics from Florida State University, which laid the foundation for a successful career as a project manager and engineer in the IT telecom communications field. His career was marked not only by professional achievement but by a genuine commitment to excellence and integrity.
A proud veteran, Hack served his country in the United States Army's 82nd Airborne Division and the Army National Guard. His military service shaped his values, instilling in him a deep sense of duty and honor that he carried throughout his life.
Hack was a wonderful father and husband. He found immense joy in holiday celebrations with family and friends, and nothing lit up his spirit more than the birth of his first grandchild, Ruth, and the anticipation of welcoming a second grandchild. He cherished these moments, which brought him undeniable happiness and pride. As a father he was very involved with Roddy and Duncan’s various sports teams, he coached basketball teams to win championships, volunteered as a soccer assistant referee, and attended numerous lacrosse games from elementary school through college as well as college rugby. He was also a parent volunteer for Boy Scout Troop 55, going on many camping trips with his sons. And advised them as Cub Scouts how to build and win at Pinewood Derby.
Beyond family, Hack had a zest for life that extended to travel and exploration. His curiosity and love for broadening experiences were evident in his enthusiasm for new adventures, and he often shared these journeys with his loved ones. A very spiritual man, he embraced life’s challenges with grace and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He thoroughly enjoyed attending St. Francis Church services and functions.
Hack's passion for creating was rooted in his early days as a carpenter. He enjoyed tinkering on home projects and took great satisfaction in those endeavors. This hands-on approach reflected his personality: warm, nurturing, and always eager to lend a helping hand.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Hilary Haight, and their sons and daughters-in-law, Rodman, Acacia, Duncan, and Kelsey Haight, granddaughter Ruth and soon to be granddaughter Isla. He is also survived by his brothers, Jock and Dan Haight and many in laws, cousins and nieces and nephews as well as many life long friends. The love he shared with them and his furry friends will forever be a sweet memory of his humanity.
Nicholas Joseph Haight’s remarkable spirit and unwavering love for life will remain in the hearts of those he touched, reminding us all of the importance of family, friendship, and the joy of shared experiences. His legacy will continue to resonate through the lives of his loved ones.
