Nicholas Matthew Pauling, 44, of Lunenburg, formerly of Lowell passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at his home due to complications after surgery. He was the beloved husband of Jillian (Tessier) Pauling with whom he would have celebrated his 15th wedding anniversary on Thursday.
He was born on March 16, 1980 and was a son of Donald Pauling and Doris (Arpin) Pauling, both of Lowell. He was raised and educated in Lowell at Franco American School and St. Louis School before graduating from Lowell Catholic High School with the Class of 1998. He went on to earn a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from UMass Lowell.
Nick was employed as a Civil Engineer with Goldsmith, Prest & Ringwall in Ayer for over 20 years. With his outgoing personality and easygoing nature, he made everyone feel comfortable in his presence. To know Nick was to love him.
Nick was a gifted athlete with a deep passion for all sports, especially baseball and spent some time pitching for UMass Lowell. He enjoyed coaching and teaching his son about sports. Nick also had a love for travel, camping, cooking, and music. However, above all else, his family was his world. He would do anything for them, and he will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Besides his wife, Jillian, of Lunenburg, and his parents, Don and Doris, of Lowell, he is also survived by his son, Henry Pauling, of Lunenburg, his two sisters, Jennifer Cloutier and her husband, Raymond, of Dracut, Melissa Faneuf and her husband, Michael, of Wake Forest, NC, his nieces and nephews, Emily Cloutier and Ryan Cloutier, Jonah Faneuf and his wife, Keely, Caleb Faneuf, Evan Comesana, Matteo Comesana, and a grand nephew, Beckett Faneuf. He is also survived by his sister in law, Marijah Comesana and her husband, Pablo and his mother in law and father in law Roxanne and Lawrence Tessier. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, the late Emile and Theresa Arpin and John and Carrie Pauling.
His family would like to thank the Lowell General Anticoagulation Management service, Riverside Surgical, Merrimack Valley Cardiology, the team at Dr. Matthew Savory's office, and Lunenburg EMS for their excellent care.
Nick was an avid supporter of Alzheimer's disease research and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in his name to the Alzheimer's Association, 320 Nevada St #201, Newton, MA 02460 or the Boys and Girls Clubs of America https://www.bgca.org/?form=donate

I worked with Nick in a professional capacity but always thought of him as a friend. Having two boys of my own, I loved hearing about Henry and all their adventures. He always made me laugh.
I will miss Nick tremendously, both on and off the job.
Our sincerest condolences,
David Smith and Family
