Nicholas P. "Nick" Smith, 73, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at North River Nursing Home in Evansville, Indiana surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 5, 1950 in Princeton, Indiana, the son of Harold L. and Iris (Stalions) Smith. He was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School Class of 1969. Nick faithfully served his Country in the United States Army.
Nick loved his family and treasured his time spent with them. He was lovingly referred to by his grandchildren as "Pa Nick". Nick was a true outdoorsman; where he enjoyed fishing, bird hunting and mushroom hunting. He also liked working in his garden and sharing his harvest with family and friends. Nick was a sports fan and his favorite teams were the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini. He also enjoyed golfing when able. Nick will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Nick will be remembered by his two sons, Levitt (Megan) Smith, and Cole Smith; grandchildren, Cameron and Jaxson Smith; four brothers, Christopher (Laura) Smith, Steve (Connie) Smith, Timothy Smith, and Dave (Debbie) Smith; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law, Paula Smith.
Family and friends are invited for a Memorial Visitation, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2024, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday January 12, 2024, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Underwood officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Nick's memory to Wabash Rally Against Cancer. Envelopes will be at the funeral home or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
