Nicholas A Toppses

It is with great sadness, but also hope in the Resurrection, that we inform you of the passing of Nicholas Toppses, age 89, on November 4, 2025, at his home. He was born in Albany, New York, to Anthony and Cornelia Toppses of Çesme, Asia Minor (Turkey). He married Eftihia (Joy) in Greece in 1963. He was a member of the New York National Guard and earned his Civil Engineering Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Nick worked for the state of New York, designing bridges and highways until his retirement. Nick loved the outdoors, fishing, and was a dedicated athlete, coaching youth hockey and playing in an adult hockey league. His passion was tennis, which he played until his mid-80s. He was a devoted member of the Greek Orthodox parishes of St. Sophia in Albany and St. Basil in Troy. In his youth, he served as an altar boy at St. Sophia, and as an adult, he was active on the parish council of St. Basil. The family sincerely thanks their generous friends and family for their caring and loving support. As Joy says, "you are all living angels". He is predeceased by his son, Anthony Toppses, his parents, and his two siblings, Molly Brehm and Calliope Romeo. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Eftihia; his son, Rev. Fr. Theodore Toppses; his daughter-in-law, Presvytera Vicki Toppses; his two granddaughters, Nicole and Julianna Toppses; Anthony's widow, Yvonne Noneman; his two sisters, Harriet Delyani and Eva Vlahos; and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. May God grant eternal rest to Nicholas, and may He give his family comfort, strength, and hope through the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. May his memory be eternal! Funeral services will be held Wednesday Nov 12, 2025 at 11am at St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church, Troy, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday from 10am to 11am prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations should be offered to St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church in Troy, New York.
