Nina “Mina” Lois Summerton, 86, of Ashland, passed away Friday, January 2, 2026, at Brethren Care Village, in Ashland.
Nina was born September 15, 1939, in Dickinson, Virginia to Clovis Alton and Flossie Bell {McCoy} Phillips.
She married Robert Lowell Summerton on December 28, 1957, they just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
Nina retired from National Latex as a ballon printer in 2000 after many years. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Ashland. Nina bowled when she was younger and was very interested in genealogy; she could trace her family tree back many generations. She was a wonderful baker; she baked the best Christmas cookies and peach cobbler. Nina enjoyed raising her family, she was always chasing her kids around. Nina was the best mother, she loved her children, no matter how they acted. She would sacrifice anything for her family. Nina was a caretaker for her sister Loretta for many years.
Nina will be deeply missed by her husband; children Karen Foster of Ashland, Sandy Uselton of Ashland, and Michael “Neal” (Rhonda) Summerton of Surprise, Arizona, and Debbie (Chuck) Rice of Shelby, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren with one on the way; 1 great-great-grandchild; and sisters Loretta Ruth Phillips of Ashland, and Joyce Cloud of Clovis, California.
Nina was preceded in death by her son Robert “Tony” Summerton, parents, brother Larry Phillips of North Carolina; sons-in-law Fred Foster, and Jack Uselton.
Friends may visit Tuesday, January 6 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 210 Davis Rd, Ashland, OH 44805. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church (and livestreamed at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com/obituaries/Nina-Summerton) with Pastor Harry Strachan officiating. Entombment will be at Ashland County Memorial Park. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
