Noel Levee, left suddenly on July 31, 2024 to be the historian of the great beyond. He was born on July 1, 1952 in Amsterdam, NY, the son of Urban and Mary Dillon Levee.
He is survived by his wife Catharine Plumadore Levee, whom he married on August 23, 1980. He is also survived by his daughter Laura (Jeff); his buddy and grandson, Zachary; sister-in-law Margaret Piazza (Frank); and numerous extended family members.
He was a graduate of Wilbur Lynch High School and attended FMCC and SUNY New Paltz. He worked for many years at Lee Dye in Johnstown, NY, where he met his future wife at the urging of a friend. He worked for 34 years at Taylor in Gloversville and made many friends during those years.
He was a talented artist, a former rodeo bull rider, a Datsun 240Z enthusiast, but most of all a soul born in the wrong century. In the 1980s he joined the 3rd Tryon County Militia, beginning a decades long passion for reenacting. He went on to form his own regiment, the 1st Canadian Regiment, and was a founding member of the Burning of Valleys Military Association.
He proudly served as the City of Johnstown Historian since 1995, and more recently also served as the Town of Johnstown Historian. He was past President of the Johnstown Historical Society and continued to serve for decades as a board member.
He had the unique opportunity to be a part of several historical movie productions including "Divided Loyalties", a Canadian TV movie, and the "The Last of the Mohicans". He was also featured in two on-screen scenes in "The Patriot", with Mel Gibson.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations in Noel's memory may be made to the Johnstown Historical Society, 17 N William Street, Johnstown, NY 12095.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, NY.

Noel was so helpful to me in setting up a display at the Historical Museum for my Dad, Dr William F. Hesek, as a long time country doctor who loved serving his community of Johnstown after I had seen a similar display at a museum in Texas. He was a joy to work with, very enthusiastic about his wonderful love of history, and has brought so much to the community of Johnstown. He will be truly missed. My sympathy goes out to his friends and family.

Noel with reenactor of Susan B. Anthony. I've been friends with Noel over 20 years where we would discuss Elizabeth Cady Stanton. My condolences are going out to his family. Helise

Noel was among the first people I met when Ron and I moved to Johnstown. He was invaluable in those first days of getting acquainted with Johnson Hall, with the living history community and with area history. "Being invaluable" continued our entire lives. Noel was passionate about history, about teaching by "showing" and encouraging participation in research and in the life of cultural history. He was there whenever and wherever he was needed and became the epitome of the accurately and well dressed soldier and gentleman of the period. His knowledge was expansive and he willingly shared it. He was central to the history organizations in the Mohawk Valley, the ones he founded or shared in founding, the events that depended on his participation, which always included his family, and their participation in the major seasonal events throughout the valley. His directorship of the Johnstown Historical Society which blossomed into guardianship of Jimmy Burk Inn, the Drumm House, the meetings, exhibits and special events of the main historical society buildings and, in his role as Historian, brought respect to history, to living history, and understanding of the important role of the community in the preservation and continuation of "history," of the importance of our past to our present and future. To say that Noel will be missed is just too simple but there are no real words to express how deeply that emotion runs in so many of our lives.

Noel told me we went to the same church when we were very little. I wish I had remembered. He said he enjoyed teasing me and making me laugh....He said his pet name for me was "little lamb", but he couldn't remember why. Many years later, he was a constant fixture at the Reali's house on Wall Street. He was always fun to be around, always kind and funny. He will be missed by many.

Noel's Mom was a good friend of one of our Vail Mills Moms...Lorraine Stanton.
Her son Gary and Noel became good friends. Noel started coming up to the Stanton's house on weekends and all of us neighborhood kids would gather to play. Somehow we were banded as soldiers and marched around the neighborhood, about 8 of us . I found my mother's fife and played that along with anyone who found a drum, or pot to bang on. We never knew we were part of Noel's dream. REST EASY OUR FRIEND

Noel was a long time friend. I worked with him at Lee Dyeing Company and we were both 'history' buffs. Noel took his love for our history to the top level, as he became more involved in local history. To say that he was an 'historian' does not do his knowledge and love for our area justice. He will be greatly missed.
