Nora Brawner, 82, passed away on October 25, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born on September 25, 1943, in Marston, Missouri to the late Aaron and Sarah (White) Henson. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed. She was married for 34 years to Don, who preceded her in death. She loved people and socializing and never met a stranger. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she created and the love she instilled in us, especially through food and storytelling.
Nora worked at Dog N Suds starting at age 14 and retired from RCA in February 1993 after 30 years. In 1996 she bought a restaurant and named it Nora's Home Cooking where her children and some of her grandchildren worked. You were always guaranteed good food and great conversations during the 15 years that she owned the restaurant.
She graduated from George Washington High School and attended the Herron Art School. She loved football, especially when Dewane and Adam were playing. She was saved at Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church, No. 2 in Lafayette, TN, and she is a current member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She is survived by her children, Cindy (Brawner) Deakin, her grandchildren, Natasha, Crystal, Samantha, Logan, Troy, Amanda, her great grandchildren, Perry, Marcus, Carly, Peyton, Brooke, Parker, Elizabeth, Melody, Hazel, Declan, Emery, her great-great grandchildren, Cashton, and James, her sisters, Betty Davis, Donna Sue Wilder, Barbara Wand, and her brothers, Alvin Henson, and Steven Henson.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband and sons, Donald Brawner, Donald D. Brawner, Jr., Adam Brawner and Dewane Brawner, and her siblings, Danny Henson, Doyle Henson, Eddie Henson, Kenny Henson, Gayle Bodell, Michael Terry Henson, Burl Henson, Herb Henson and Joe Henson
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 4:00pm-8:00pm and Thursday, October 30, 2025, 9:00am-service time at Flanner Buchanan Decatur Township. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial gifts be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
