Nora Taylor Brown, 91, of Greenville, SC, devoted and loving wife of 49 years to the late Bennie G. Brown, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with COPD and other health challenges.
Born on September 30, 1933, she was a beloved daughter of the late Reverend Ralph Taylor and Kitty Grant Taylor. Nora grew up in a close-knit family surrounded by her five siblings and a large extended family of aunts and uncles.
A devoted Christian, Nora was an active member of Praise Cathedral since 1997. She found immense joy in serving in the soup kitchen, taking part in church events, and lending a hand wherever she was needed. Her life was a reflection of her deep faith, filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to both her family and the Lord.
Nora had a caregiver's heart, selflessly tending to many loved ones throughout their final days. She retired after an incredible 44-year career at Monaghan Mill, where she worked in the cloth room. Even after retirement, her love for people and staying active led her to a part-time role at Dollar General, where she continued to brighten the days of those around her.
Anyone who visited Nora knew they were in for a warm hug, a "sweet treat", and a bottle of water, just a few of the small, kind gestures that made her so special.
Nora's legacy is one of faith, compassion, strength, and a life beautifully lived. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to be loved by her.
Nora leaves behind a family who adored her; daughter, Kitty Wolcott (Ed); son, Randall Brown (Trisha); five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren who were the sunshine of her life; and her brothers, Earl Taylor (Sharon) and Ralph "Buddy" Taylor (Delaine).
In addition to her devoted and loving husband and parents, Nora was preceded in death by son, Tommy Lee Brown; granddaughter, Camille Brown; and sisters, Betty Eckford, Marie Mulligan, and Louise A. Gonzalez.
The family would like to thank the nursing and hospice staff of Prisma Greenville Memorial whose kind and compassionate care provided her with comfort and peace.
A visitation will be held Monday, April 14, 2025, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest, with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel. Burial will be held in Graceland West Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at https://www.alz.org/, Prisma Hospice at https://prismahealth.org/services/other-services/hospice, or a charity of your choice.
